Moff Gideon definitely has a plan for Baby Yoda on The Mandalorian, according to the character's actor Giancarlo Esposito. Although Gideon didn't arrive on the Disney+ show until the final two episodes, his villainous personality and extreme foreknowledge of his opponents made him an immediately formidable foe, and the subsequent reveal at the end of The Mandalorian's first season that Gideon is the current owner of the Darksaber only made him more enigmatic.
Giancarlo Esposito is no stranger to playing dramatic and evil characters, having earned much acclaim in the past from his role as Gustavo Fring in both Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Although he has also appeared in comedic works, many fans feel Esposito is uniquely suited to playing the bad guy on camera, thanks to his inarguable talent and equally inarguable dead-eyed stare. The bane of Walter White is a terrifying foe for Baby Yoda to have, and now fans know Moff Gideon definitely has something nasty in store for The Child, should he ever get his hands on it.
Speaking to IGN, Esposito spoke about how someone in his character's position would feel if they learned there was a being as powerful as Baby Yoda around. "With someone who is advanced in a certain way, yeah, you could want to be their best friend, or you could want to co-opt what is inside them to figure out how to make all of us a little better... it's that power and control of a Moff leader who is trying to put the universe back together."
When Mando rescued Baby Yoda from Werner Herzog's team of Empire soldiers in episode three of The Mandalorian, the small child was hooked up to some sort of medical scanning table, presumably used to try and extract the creature's power. Whether Moff Gideon wants this power for himself, or wants to distribute it throughout the remnants of the Empire, remains to be seen, although the actor did speak a little about being transfixed by the design of The Child. "It melts my heart... when you look at those eyes and that little body, how can you not help but fall in love... even me as Moff Gideon, I gotta walk away, I can't look too much at that baby because that baby will put a spell on you."
The entire world already knows how cute Baby Yoda is, but the news that Moff Gideon himself can barely stand to look at The Child without being overwhelmed with adoration proves just how popular the character has become. Hopefully, this means the actor won't be able to bring himself to do anything too terrible to Baby Yoda when the two inevitably cross paths again in The Mandalorian's second season. Moff Gideon can keep his Darksaber, just don't give him a boxcutter.
