Prince Charles was reported to be very upset about his son, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan Markle choosing to step down. The second in line to the crown of England was not prepared for the bombshell that his son laid at his feet.
Since the death of Princess Diana, the Prince of Wales's first wife, the royal has remained close to his two sons. There were rumors that swirled around during his marriage to Diana that Prince Harry was not Prince Charles’s son but actually a former cavalry officer in the British Army, James Hewitt, who had an affair with the Princess of Wales. During the mid-1990s the story broke that the affair had taken place while the princess was still married to Prince Charles. Regardless, the father and son have remained close.
An insider for Us Weekly revealed on January 15th that the Prince of Wales was incensed with his younger son for wanting to distance himself from the monarchy that made him. Prince Charles was also said to have blamed his new daughter-in-law, Meghan for the abrupt decision. But the Prince of Wales may get the last laugh as currently, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan obtain 95 percent of their income from Prince Charles through a royal stipend valued at $6.5 million. The second in line to the throne now will make the decision of whether or not he will continue to pay them.
Even with an entire fortune seemingly left behind, the royal couple is not about to look back. The source explained that both Prince Harry and Markle are not having second thoughts as they already have a three-year plan organized. The plan is said to consist of settling in Canada while keeping a vacation home in Los Angeles. The two are excited to work with their charities on a more personal level while protecting their son, Archie.
While many royal admirers still believe that Prince Harry is under some kind of magic spell thanks to Markle, he seems to be firm in his ways. The royal family recently had a family meeting to discuss the matter with Markle choosing not to call in from Canada. The Queen was said to have wanted to settle the matter quickly so everyone can move on with their lives. Buckingham Palace was said to have been blindsided by the announcement and had wished the couple had discussed their plans with the family first. None the less, the couple is moving forward with their plans and leaving their old life - and everyone involved in it - behind.
