VITAMIN CONNECTION Takes Advantage of the Nintendo Switch and Is Really Fun

WayForward was kind enough to send me a review copy of their new game called Vitamin Connection and it’s an interesting game. It isn’t going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re looking for something that’s a little different this is definitely something to check out. If you like what I say, you can purchase the game for yourself today on the Nintendo eShop!

So, the story mode for Vitamin Connection is pretty simple. You control Vita-Boy and Mina-Girl, who represent medicine. You then go into a sick person (each mission features a different character) and destroy the disease plaguing them. It’s kinda like a game of Osmosis Jones where you play as Drix, and it’s a lot more Japanese. The animation, music, and even some of the voice acting really remind me of some anime I’ve seen, and it’s fun.

Now, what makes Vitamin Connection unique? It is designed to be a two-player game and to take advantage of a lot that the Switch has to offer. Yes, there’s a single-player mode and it works, but when playing between the two, it’s easy to tell that Vitamin Connection was designed as a cooperative two-player game. It’s a lot more fun as a two-player game, and the controls are a bit more natural. In a two-player game, one player uses motion controls with one Joy-Con to rotate the Capsule Ship and the analog stick to aim the laser. The other player is in charge of firing the laser with a button and maneuvering with the analog stick on their Joy-Con. That’s not all you’ll experience though. For example, in one of the boss levels you’ll use the IR sensor to help control Mina-Girl. This game gets a lot of points for thinking outside the box.

The only real problems I see with the game are that the single-player controls felt a little clunky to me, and the story mode isn’t super deep. However, you’re basically playing a pill, so I don’t know what kind of deeper story there really could be. Also, the lighthearted approach is very much part of Vitamin Connection’s charm.

Vitamin Connection is sure to ruin some relationships and definitely challenge most. Whether you and your co-pilot are friends, partners, spouses, or anything else, communication is key, and there will be lots of yelling. The great use of control options for the game really push this game up front for unique games on the Switch, and it’s a fun one to boot. Enjoy it now on the Nintendo Switch.
