Phase 4 of the MCU will begin in a few short months with the release of Black Widow and the start of an exciting new chapter in the cinematic universe. We will, of course, be seeing a lot of our favorite heroes returning for more adventures, like Doctor Strange and Thor, as well as plenty of new characters to be introduced to.
Some of the exciting new additions to the MCU that have been confirmed include Shang-Chi, Moon Knight and She-Hulk. But the MCU loves its surprises and there's always the likelihood that there will be some shocking appearances as well. Here are some new characters who could show up in Phase 4 of the MCU.
10 Red Hulk
Despite being obsessed with hunting Hulk over the years in the comics, General Thunderbolt Ross eventually becomes a Hulk creature himself. Red Hulk is Ross' version of the gamma monster who is an enemy of Bruce Banner as well as a sometimes hero.
Ross has, of course, been a recurring character in the MCU since The Incredible Hulk, played by William Hurt. Some fans think that we could finally see his transformation in the upcoming Phase 4. With a confirmed appearance in Black Widow and a possible appearance in She-Hulk, this could really happen.
9 Kraven The Hunter
Spider-Man has an amazing group of supervillains that fans would love to see appear on the big screen, but one fan-favorite that has them especially excited is Kraven the Hunter. Kraven is a Russian big-game hunter who underwent an experiment that gave him enhanced hunting abilities.
In the comics, Kraven uses these abilities to track Spider-Man, who he considers to be the greatest prey of all. The next Spider-Man sequel will presumably have Spidey on the run and some speculate that Kraven will be the villain tasked with hunting him down, which could be an amazing adventure.
8 Nightmare
Since the first Doctor Strange movie was announced, there has been talk of the villainous Nightmare joining the MCU. Nightmare is a being who serves as ruler of the Dream Dimension and feeds off the subconscious of people who are sleeping.
Rumors state that Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will embrace the horror elements of the comics. If that is the case, Nightmare seems like a pretty perfect choice for the film's villain. Having a character like this in the hands of Sam Raimi could make for a twisted and fun movie.
7 Norman Osborn
Another of Spider-Man's iconic villains who fans have been expecting to see in the MCU is Norman Osborn. Throughout every incarnation of Spider-Man, Osborn has been a very significant bad guy for Spider-Man as he is a corrupt businessman, the father of Peter Parker's friend Harry, and he moonlights as Green Goblin.
Osborn has been curiously missing from the MCU, so the next entry could be his chance to finally show up. He is the kind of character who could not only be a solid Spider-Man villain, but also a big bad for the entire MCU.
6 Brother Voodoo
The upcoming Doctor Strange film promises to be one of the wildest the MCU has made. With the story apparently dealing with various realities that our hero will be traveling to, they have promised to bring in a lot of obscure and exciting Marvel characters.
One character that is being rumored is Jericho Drumm aka Brother Voodoo. Drumm is another sorcerer and even becomes Sorcerer Supreme in the comics. In one storyline, Drumm is tasked with destroying Scarlet Witch when her powers get out of control, which could play into the movie.
5 Hercules
Hercules is probably one of the most prominent members of the Avengers from the comics who has yet to appear in the films. Taken from the character from Greek mythology, Hercules is an ancient and powerful being who joins the other Marvel heroes to save the world.
It might first seem like Hercules would be an awkward fit in the MCU, but if Thor worked, there's no reason he can't. With Eternals set to explore thousands of years in the MCU, that seems like a good place to introduce him.
4 Beta Ray Bill
Beta Ray Bill is another fan-favorite from the comics whose appearance in the MCU has been heavily anticipated. He the horse-faced alien who proves worthy to wield the hammer of Thor and becomes an important ally to the God of Thunder.
A few years ago, such a character might have seemed to weird to bring to the big screen. However, the MCU has done a great job of selling the outrageous, so it's only a matter of time. And Taika Waititi feels like the right filmmaker to do him justice with some even guessing that Christian Bale will be playing the part in Thor: Love and Thunder.
3 Daredevil
Daredevil has been given the big-screen treatment once before and had his own successful Netflix series, but fans still want to see him show up in the official MCU. Matt Murdock is a blind New York City lawyer by day and a crime-fighting badass by night so there's plenty of opportunities for him to pop up.
He could show up in the next Spider-Man film, perhaps helping Peter Parker with his new exposed identity. Or with another lawyer-centric hero, She-Hulk, getting her own series he could make an appearance there as well.
2 Doctor Doom
With Thanos gone, everyone is wondering who the next big villain will be to threaten the Marvel heroes. Many fans are hoping Doctor Doom will step into that position. Doom has been called the greatest Marvel villain by many comic fans but his portrayals on the big screen have been less than successful.
There are some rumors that Doom could be the antagonist in the upcoming Black Panther sequel. As the ruler of Latveria, he could lead a war against Wakanda before becoming a bigger threat to the MCU.
1 Namor
Namor is an anti-hero and one of the more complex characters in Marvel comics. Namor comes from Atlantis and hates the people of the surface world for their mistreatment of the ocean. He has done battle with many of Marvel's biggest heroes but has also joined forces with them on many occasions.
Namor is another character being rumored for the Black Panther sequel. While he could make an interesting antagonist for the film and be an exciting new addition to the MCU, it's difficult to see how they will pull it off without seeming too similar to Aquaman.
