Brooklyn Nin-Nine has effectively developed a huge fanbase for its police procedure comedy genre. When the show was canceled, fans rallied together to bring it back to life for the following season. Fans fell in love with its comical main characters, who can be a bit out of the ordinary.
The show has some familiar faces, as well as some new ones, including Andy Samberg, Terry Crews, and Chelsea Peretti. You can't help but fall in love with Rosa's (Stephanie Beatriz) cold exterior and Holt's (Andre Braugher) no-nonsense attitude. But, before these actors took on their roles, they already had a list of projects under their belt. Let's take a look at the main cast's previous work.
10 Marc Evan Jackson: The Good Place
Marc Evan Jackson is better known as Dr.Kevin Cozner, Holt's husband. Holt found his perfect match in Kevin for their eerily similar personas. Jackson has been seen in much more notable television series including playing Shawn in the show The Good Place. If you a Parks & Rec fan, he played Trevor Nelsson.
Jackson not only dominates television, but he also dominates the big screen. He played a minor role as Principal Bentley in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and played Chris Wallace in Bombshell.
9 Joel Mckinnon Miller: Big Love
Oh, Scully. Making up one-half of the laziest veteran detectives in the Nine-Nine is Earl Scully played by actor Joel Mckinnon Miller. Before becoming the beloved character, Miller wasn't a stranger to playing roles on television.
Before being part of the main cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Miller was known for playing Don Embry in the HBO drama series Big Love. His role was the business partner and best friend of the show's main character Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton). The show mapped out the life of a Mormon family in contemporary Utah.
8 Dirk Blocker: Baa Baa Black Sheep
Dirk Blocker comes from an acting family with his father being the legendary Dan Blocker who played Hoss on Bonanza. Blocker followed his father's footsteps and took part in many television shows. His major role was playing First Lieutenant Jerome "Jerry" Bragg in Baa Baa Black Sheep.
He went on to take part in well-known series such as M*A*S*H, CHiPs, and Criminal Minds. Fun fact, Blocker was in Poltergeist (1982) as a character named Shaw.
7 Chelsea Peretti: Big Mouth
Chelsea Peretti is one of those actors you always remember no matter what. Her distinct character makes her noteworthy for acting. Peretti has had her hands in multiple shows as a writer as well as an actor. Peretti has appeared in various shows as a voice actor and her voice is recognized for playing Monica/Melissa in the animated series Big Mouth. She also voiced Queen of Ooo in Adventure Time.
She plays the beloved character of Gina in Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Believe it or not, Peretti did attend elementary school with Andy Samberg just like in the show.
6 Joe Lo Truglio: Reno 911!
Playing the role of Charles Boyle, best friend of Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg) and culinary extraordinaire is actor Joe Lo Truglio. Besides playing a detective on the show, he is also known for playing Deputy Frank Rizzo in the comedy show Reno 911!
Truglio is also recognized for another comedy series written by Ben Stiller, Burning Love. For 23 episodes, he played the role of Alex. You would also hear his voices on certain occasions voicing characters in Bob's Burgers.
5 Andre Braugher: Men Of A Certain Age
All fans of the show can agree that Captain Raymond Holt, played by Andre Braugher, is the father figure of the precinct. Yes, he has a no-nonsense policy, but the dynamic group of detectives has managed to crack his shell. Braugher, before becoming Captain Holt, was known for the television series Men of a Certain Age as Owen Thoreau Jr.
Braugher also has a habit of playing authoritative military roles in the films Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Salt. If you want to watch Braugher's earliest work, he starred as Detective Frank Pembleton in Homicide: Life on the Street.
4 Terry Crews: The Expendables
Terry Crews is very well known in the comedy and the acting world, having made his mark on television and film. He is highly recognized for his role in White Chicks and The Longest Yard. He also played a recurring role alongside Sylvester Stallon and Jason Statham in The Expendables franchise as Hackman.
Above all, Terry Crews made his career playing Julius in the popular series Everybody Hates Chris and Nick Kingston-Persons in Are We There Yet? Crews is also a talented host in the show America's Got Talent.
3 Stephanie Beatriz: BoJack Horseman
Stephanie Beatriz does an incredible job of having audiences believe her voice as Detective Rosa Diaz is real. Fans get quite a shock when they hear her real voice in interviews. Her vocal abilities come in handy, as she is also known for playing Gina Cazador in the animated show BoJack Horseman.
Her voice has also voiced Chloe Barbas/Julia in Bob's Burgers and characters in The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part and Ice Age: Collision Course.
2 Melissa Fumero: One Life To Live
Amy Santiago is dedicated to her job and her binders. Gotta love that new binder smell. Amy is played by actress Melissa Fumero. Before Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Fumero has had minor roles in the shows, All My Children, Gossip Girl, and Royal Pains.
Her most credited role is as Adriana Cramer in the American soap opera One Life to Live. Her character was the goddaughter of Carlotta Vega (Patricia Mauceri). Fumero played the role for 208 episodes from 2004 until 2011.
1 Andy Samberg: Hotel Transylvania
Andy Samberg is a known comedian and actor in Hollywood and plays the role of Jake Peralta in the show. Samberg got his big break as a cast member on Saturday Night Live. He voices the character Jonathan Loughran in the Adam Sandler-lead film franchise Hotel Transylvania.
He has also taken part in many comedic works ranging from the films Hot Rod, I Love You, Man and That's My Boy to the show Parks & Rec. Besides playing Jake, Samberg is also the show's producer and won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Series Musical or Comedy in 2014.
