The Merc with a Mouth already has his hands full running a monster kingdom, but in November, Deadpool will have to deal with a curse, courtesy of his frenemy, monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone! According to solicitations for Deadpool #8, this one is going to be really messy.
Elsa Bloodstone first appeared in Bloodstone #1, the daughter of monster hunter Ulysses Bloodstone. She most memorably appeared in the humorous comic Nextwave, though she has had a number of appearances since then in books ranging from A-Force to Monsters Unleashed. Elsa has superhuman speed and strength, immunity to vampires as well as the ability to wield the mysterious Bloodgem.
Recently Elsa has appeared as an unlikely ally to Deadpool, who himself has ascended to the equally unlikely position of King of the Monsters in New York. Since she's in the business of hunting down Deadpool's very subjects, their working relationship is tense to say the least. However, whatever his faults, Deadpool has made it clear he intends to rule to the best of his ability - and he needs all the help he can get.
Unfortunately, it looks like that help might be coming back to bite Deadpool. The solicitations mention the Bloodstone curse as well as a lie Elsa told that just might kill Deadpool. While the latter seems highly unlikely, given Wade's healing factor, it does raise the risk to those in Deadpool's kingdoms. The curse of the Bloodstone likely refers to the Bloodgem, the source of Elsa's powers. While Elsa keeps the Bloodgem on her person at all time, fragments of the stone are also present in her bloodstream, which has been known to kill vampires who get close enough for a bite. It's possible that Deadpool - or his subjects - might find themselves in a similar position.
The cover shows a rather angry-looking Deadpool shrouded in darkness. Deadpool seems to be shattering, with glowing orange cracks appearing all over his head and shoulders. An object - presumably the Bloodgem - is visible in his chest. This all indicates that Elsa Bloodstone is almost certainly at the center of whatever crisis Deadpool is facing. While it seems pretty likely Deadpool with survive this (though his subjects are another matter), the biggest casualty could be his and Elsa's relationship going forward. Elsa has made for an interesting and unexpected foil for Wade in Kelly Thompson's run on Deadpool, and one thing seems for certain - after the smoke clears, things between Deadpool and Bloodstone will never be the same. - SCANDAL! BETRAYAL! GOO! Elsa lied, and Deadpool died! Well, not yet. But he might! Which, given that this is Deadpool, means it must be a pretty spectacular lie. What is the ACTUAL truth of the Bloodstone curse? And what does it have to do with a dimension full of hideous goo? Don’t wear your nice clothes when reading this one – IT’S GONNA GET MESSY.
