Black Adam Hawkman Actor Reading Recent JSA Comics To Prepare For DC Movie

Aldis Hodge, who will play Hawkman in Black Adam, has been reading Justice Society of America comic books to prepare for the role. Black Adam will star Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as the titular anti-hero. While Black Adam was initially set to premiere in December 2021, Warner Bros.' release date reshuffle has pushed the film back indefinitely. That being said, Johnson has confirmed that Black Adam will start shooting in spring 2021, which is welcome news for any concerned DC fans.

Black Adam will feature the Justice Society of America, including Doctor Fate, Atom Smasher, and Hawkman. Hawkman, in particular, is an incredibly popular DC superhero; as a result, there was intense speculation over who would nab the coveted part. To that end, Hodge was announced as Hawkman in late September, and the actor immediately took to Instagram to share his excitement.

One of Hodge's new Instagram posts shows that the star has already begun studying up on Hawkman. Hodge's post shows seven comic books splayed across a flat surface; some of the comics feature the Justice Society of America. All of them appear to include Hawkman on the cover. According to Hodge, reading up on Hawkman and the JSA is part of his "weekend homework." You can check out Hodge's lighthearted image below:

It's unclear how closely Black Adam will follow Carter Hall's, aka Hawkman, comic book backstory. Hawkman was initially born as general Ktar, where he's reincarnated alongside Shrra, aka Hawkgirl, from generation to generation. This leads to one of Hawkman's most well-known reincarnations, as ancient Egyptian Prince Khufu, who is later killed by a mysterious Nth Metal dagger. However, considering Hawkman's complicated past -- as well as the fact that Hawkgirl will not appear in Black Adam -- it's uncertain how much audience members will see of the hero's backstory.

Hodge's extensive resume shows that he's more than qualified to take on the role of Hawkman. Hodge has appeared in various projects, from TV show Leverage to sci-fi horror film The Invisible Man. As such, Hodge is talented enough to put his unique twist on the iconic character of Hawkman. All in all, it's frustrating to know that Black Adam's delay means that Hawkman won't make an appearance anytime soon. However, it seems the actor is taking all this in good stride -- and using the extra time to catch up on the latest Hawkman comic books.
