Freaky Trailer Puts Vince Vaughn In A Creepy Aaron Rodgers Mask

Blumhouse's new Freaky trailer shows Vince Vaughn donning a creepy Aaron Rodgers mask. Starring Vaughn and Kathryn Newton (Pokémon Detective Pikachu), Freaky hilariously poses the question — “What would you do if you somehow magically switched places into the body of a wanted serial killer?”

Although major film releases have been largely limited in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Freaky is one of the few exceptions. Produced by Blumhouse, one of the leaders in the modern horror genre, and the same studio behind smash hits like The Purge and Get Out, the first trailer for the film debuted back in early September, soon after movie houses nationwide began reopening their doors. Even amidst a landscape of postponements and diminished theater attendance, Freaky remains committed to its November, Friday the 13th premiere, issuing an updated trailer to remind moviegoers to save the date.

The all new Freaky “Slaughterhouse” trailer went live on YouTube, courtesy of Universal Pictures, who distribute the film. While the previous trailer showed off a mix of horror and teenage high school drama, the new teaser jumps right into the thick of it, showcasing the scares, carnage, and death that bring the film to life, while also showing Vaugn in a creepy mask of the Green Bay Packers quarterback. You can check out the new trailer below:

No stranger to the merger of “fright” and “funny”, Freaky is directed by Christopher Landon, the man behind Blumhouse’s Happy Death Day and Happy Death Day 2U. While those movies were essentially a horror version of the classic Groundhog Day, Freaky is a very obvious nod to Freaky Friday, the famed novel turned feature. Happy Death Day and its sequel both floated the balance between horror and comedy almost seamlessly and based on this new trailer, it appears that the director is going to excel at that again.

“Body swapping” is a time-tested comedy mechanic, which can set up some hilarious scenarios. The humor is ramped up even further, the more drastically different the two characters are. Vaughn, a middle-aged man, switching places with a teen girl, basically writes itself. The Hot Chick, which saw a dumpy Rob Schneider trade lives with prim and pretty Rachel McAdams, got the joke across, and adding some menace and murder to the equation could be a recipe for a perfectly balanced formula for entertainment. As fans have seen in some of Vaughn's previous roles such as True Detective, the usually humorous Vaughn can give more serious performances when he needs to, so hopefully Freaky will employ the best of both.
