Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno's drama is front and center once again in the second season of The Family Chantel. Chantel and Pedro first became a part of the TLC family when they appeared on 90 Day Fiancé season four. But, despite fans distaste for their spin-off show, it was still renewed for a season two. Why?
Originally from the Dominican Republic, Pedro fell in love with Chantel after tutoring her in Spanish. Despite a fiery romance and sexy nights out shared by the couple, their families have never supportive of the relationship. After Chantel lied and told her parents Pedro was in the country on a student visa, the Everett family seemed to have it out for Pedro. They even went as far as to hire a private investigator to dig up dirt on the young man. Not to mention, Nicole, Pedro's sister, seems hellbent on splitting Chantel and Pedro up. She has such an intense hatred for her sister-in-law that she conspired with her friend, Coraima, to give her brother a lapdance. As if that betrayal wasn't enough, Nicole videotaped the event and showed the video to Chantal.
Between conspiracies, fistfights, and Karen's insistence that Pedro only wants to "harvest the American dollar," some viewers of the show are fed up with the negativity. One Instagram user responded to a recent post of Chantel's by saying, "Dumbest tv show I have ever seen," and he's not the only one putting in his two cents. With mixed reviews on the show and rumors of cancelation, many viewers of the 90 Day franchise wonder why the show was renewed for a second season.
The answer to that question is two-fold: ratings and human nature. The 90 Day Fiancé franchise has propelled TLC to rank #1 in PrimeTime TV for women. According to TLC, The Family Chantel season one, episode one, is the "franchise's highest-rated series premiere ever." Undoubtedly, the show's chaos and unrest have viewers on a roller coaster ride, but people are still watching. Fans of the show want to see a resolution for the couple. When Pedro visited the Dude Ranch with Chantel's father and younger brother and opened up about his childhood, hearts broke. With tears in his eyes, he shared, "I don't know my father." Viewers need to know if Pedro will get the happy family that he has always dreamt of.
Speaking of happy families, another reason people speculate that the show was renewed is that Chantel might be pregnant. Despite her special glow in the post-production confessional scenes, she has denied the pregnancy rumors. Given the success of 90 Day Fiancé: What Now? Loren and Alexei's Birth Special, if the rumors are true, we may even see a further continuation of The Family Chantel.
