Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible 7 COVID Rant Was A Publicity Stunt Says Leah Remini

Tom Cruise's COVID rant on the set of Mission: Impossible 7 was all just a publicity stunt, according to ex-Scientologist and actress Leah Remini. It's no secret that the film industry was hit hard by the Coronavirus pandemic. Several film productions halted production and had their release dates delayed. As for Mission: Impossible 7, production on the sequel was stopped in February as the crew was shooting in Italy. A few months later, Mission: Impossible 7 and Mission: Impossible 8 were both delayed to November 19, 2021 and November 4, 2022 respectively.

In the past few months, several studios have re-started filming their upcoming blockbusters, albeit with strict filming guidelines in place to ensure the safety of casts and crews. Mission: Impossible 7 was able to resume filming in July, which has resulted in several set pictures and videos being released to show off the film's crazy stunts. Recently, however, an audio clip was leaked online of Cruise screaming at Mission: Impossible 7's crew for breaking COVID protocols. In the long rant, Cruise threatened to fire anyone breaking COVID protocols after he spotted two people not being socially distant while looking at a monitor. The audio was shocking to listen to coming from a star as big as Cruise, but now it turns out it might have been a publicity stunt.

In a long letter published by The Underground Bunker, Remini claims that Cruise's long and emotional rant was actually just a publicity stunt for Mission: Impossible 7. Remini claims that this rant was written for Cruise and that it was purposely leaked online by his Scientology assistant. Remini thinks that Cruise could care less about his co-workers and that this rant is just another one of his abusive outbursts. A segment of Remini's letter can be read below:

"Tom’s reaction that was released yesterday shows his true personality. He is an abusive person. I witnessed it, I’ve been a recipient of it on a small level, and I’ve been told of similar abuse by his former girlfriend, his employees, and his friends. This is the real Tom. This was the same reaction Tom gave his household staff when they did not have the right ingredients for him to make chocolate chip cookies. This is the same type of tirade Tom launched into when an assistant had the audacity to serve him a drink in a chipped mug."

"Tom does not care about the families of his crew; this is all for publicity. Tom does not believe in family values. I mean, how anyone is falling for this is just mindblowing. I would bet that Tom had this rant written for him and had his Scientology assistant record and release it. Hearing a rich actor with enormous power address his crew in this way is a sign of weakness and a deeply troubled person. This is not just a rant of another a**hole actor. Tom Cruise pretending that he cares is why a few have called him out. They know this is a publicity stunt, they know what Tom really is and what Tom really believes. Tom believes in the destruction of family if a member decides to leave Scientology. Tom belongs to a cult that forbids victims of pedophiles to report to the police, Tom belongs to a cult that forbids victims of rape report their crimes or abuse… and if they do, his cult says their lives should be destroyed for doing so."

The Church of Scientology has been at the center of criticism in the past, and Remini herself used to be a member of the organization. In her letter, Remini was not only attacking Cruise but The Church of Scientology as a whole. Remini has spoken against the Church on several occasions and even had a successful series on A&E called Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath. In response to their critic, the Church of Scientology responded to her letter by stating:

"The Church of Scientology has done more than any other religious institution in promoting COVID-19 prevention actions–throughout the U.S. and worldwide. Long before “stay at home” directives, the Church took aggressive actions to prevent the spread of the virus. The Church’s leader acted well ahead of the curve. Remini is an unreliable source who attacks Scientology for publicity and money–as she herself has admitted.”

Cruise's rant on the Mission: Impossible 7 set has been a topic of controversy since it leaked online. Many people agree with the message behind his COVID rant, but not how he addressed the issue. Back in August, Cruise posted a video of himself going to see Tenet in theaters. This was also a controversial publicity stunt, as many claimed Cruise cared more about theaters re-opening than the well-being of moviegoers. That being said, other prominent figures in Hollywood, such as Christopher Nolan, have been just as eager to see theaters re-open. Moviegoers, in general, want to go back to seeing movies on the big screen, but as box office numbers have shown, fans only want to do so once it's safe. In the end, Cruise's on-set rant could have been one big publicity stunt, but it could have just as likely been a case where a dedicated actor is concerned about his cast and crew being out of a job, again.
