Luke Danes had no idea what a catch he was on Gilmore Girls. He's a protective man who owns his own business and is loyal to a fault. He cared for his nephew like he was his own, he took charge of being a dad after finding out he had a 12-year-old daughter, and he helped the Stars Hollow community on numerous occasions. Luke had it going for him regardless of his Grinch-like personality.
While some Gilmore Girl fans love that Luke ended up with Lorelai, there are other partners Luke could have ended up with and lived happily ever after in Stars Hollow.
10 Susan Bennet
Luke met Coach Bennet when he was picking April up from swim class. He ended up taking an adult swim class after she learned he didn't know how to swim. The class went well enough and the two wound up on a date. Sadly for both of them, things didn't end well but they could have given it a second try. Most first dates are filled with nerves and silly mishaps. Perhaps their second attempt would have gone better.
9 Rachel
For a long time, Rachel was the one that got away for Luke. She was beautiful, adventurous, and full of life. Looking back, the two were complete opposites. Rachel loved to talk to people, travel, and go on adventures. Luke was more of a hometown introvert who enjoyed the comforts of home.
However, the two were hopelessly in love with each other. Even though they broke up a few times due to their differences, who's to say that they couldn't have made it work down the line? Rachel was bound to slow down eventually, right?
8 Nicole Leahy
As the saying goes, "opposites attract." Nicole Leahy was a big-time lawyer with over-eager parents and a desire to travel. The two met when Nicole signed on to be Taylor's lawyer and she stopped into Luke's Diner for a coffee. When they ran into each other again, Luke asked her on a date and she accepted. As time went on, the two became more serious and they spontaneously got married on a cruise! No one could have seen this coming but it happened. Luke was committed.
The two eventually fell apart but would they have gotten a divorce if she never cheated on Luke? Luke's a loyal man; it's safe to say he would have stuck by Nicole's side and fought for the relationship to work.
7 TJ
Throughout seven seasons of Gilmore Girls, Luke has never said he was straight and only attracted to women. Who's to say he couldn't totally have ended up with another man if the circumstances were right?
One could say that TJ was the male version of Lorelai. He was a little whacky, loved to talk, and enjoyed being social. It's actually surprising fans didn't get more scenes of TJ and Lorelai together. Nevertheless, knowing how much Luke loved Lorelai, TJ's personality mirrors hers. If TJ and Liz didn't work out, he and Luke could have been fun together.
6 Anna Nardini
Luke and Anna dated for about a year before the two broke up. Shortly after, Anna found out she was pregnant with Luke's baby. She knew how much Luke loathed children and thought he would be more of a hassle than helpful, so she never told him.
When Luke found out about his daughter, April, years later, this could have brought him and Anna back together. He and Lorelai broke up shortly after April and Anna came into his life, so the time could have been perfect. And let's not forget that Anna is very similar to Lorelai in both looks and personality.
5 Jackson
Jackson and Sookie are one of the best couples in the entire series. They're both passionate about food, mesh well with each other's personalities, and love the small-town feel of Stars Hollow.
But if we were in an alternate universe where Sookie never asked Jackson out, he and Luke could have been a great couple. They were both in the food industry and hung out as friends as is. They got along well and enjoyed each other's company. If they didn't work out long-term, they would have at least gone on a few dates taste-testing different vegetables.
4 Carolyn Bates
In "Partings," Emily and Richard have some fun and set Christopher up on a blind date of sorts at their house. Carolyn "Lynnie" Bates is the daughter of one of Emily's dear friends, and she thought she would be perfect for Christopher. Both came from prominent families and she had a fantastic job as a psychologist. However, it was not a love match.
Lorelai came to like Lynnie due to her profession and even talked to her about her relationship with Luke. If Lorelai and Luke ever went to see Lynnie professionally, this would have been an opportunity for Luke to meet her. Both Luke and Lynnie are down to earth and good listeners. Lynnie appeared to come from money but didn't act the same way as the Gilmores did, which would have been nice for Luke.
3 Max Medina
Max and Luke got off on the wrong foot. Luke and Lorelai were longtime friends, while Lorelai and Max were dating (and later engaged). When Max saw Luke standing in his girlfriend's house, he panicked and assumed the worst. He never felt like he fully had a grip on Lorelai, and he was right.
Once Max was out of his own head and away from Lorelai, he and Luke would have been a sweet match. Luke is hot-tempered and passionate whereas Max is more subtle and soft-spoken. They both could have taught each other a lot about their own respective hobbies.
2 Sherry Tinsdale
How fitting would it have been if Lorelai ended up with Christopher and Luke ended up with Sherry? Exes dating exes! Sherry seemed very organized and a tad bit controlling, which doesn't sound like someone Luke would be interested in, but we can't forget that he was once married to Nicole. Nicole and Sherry have a similar aura about them, which means Luke could have found himself attracted to her.
1 Kirk
Kirk is one of the most beloved characters on Gilmore Girls. He's had every job Stars Hollow offers and seems to be everywhere at all times. He's quirky and odd but has a good heart.
Kirk and Luke are friends who bicker often. Luke never seems to understand the things that Kirk worries about or the trouble he finds himself in and yet they truly care for each other. One could say that Kirk was even a little jealous of Luke. Remember when he created Kirk's Diner when Luke's was closed for renovation? They argue the same way Luke argues with Lorelai, which is a good sign that Luke cares.
