Tales From the Borderlands May Be Coming To PS5 & Xbox Series X

A PEGI rating from December of last year indicates Telltale Games' Tales from the Borderlands may eventually make its way to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S natively. Licensing Borderlands from Gearbox, Telltale launched Tales from the Borderlands in late 2014 as an episodic adventure much like its acclaimed The Walking Dead series.

Telltale's take on Borderlands offered a different perspective of the Gearbox-created world. Looting and shooting weren't at all integral to the experience; instead, story and character sat center-stage, with well-written comedic writing to boot. Fortunately, Gearbox found a way to bridge the gap between its story and that of Telltale's by introducing Tales from the Borderlands' Rhys in Borderlands 3. Unfortunately, Rhys' original voice actor, Troy Baker, didn't reprise his role. Confusion about Baker's absence led to just one bit of controversy that plagued Borderlands 3 in the lead up to release.

Gematsu recently spotted a rating for Tales from the Borderlands on PEGI, the European games rating board, which suggests Telltale's episodic Borderlands adventure may soon hit PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S platforms. Interestingly, a PC listing features alongside the PlayStation and Xbox ratings, too. The following tweet from Gematsu boasts a screenshot of the listing in question:

All of the above seems to indicate that if Tales from the Borderlands' return is in the works, it's not just a next-gen update. Perhaps a full-on re-release is scheduled to roll out at some point, with native versions available for PS5 and Xbox Series? Should that be the case, official word about the project could come from the revived Telltale Games.

Telltale as it was originally known shuttered its doors in 2018, following years of mismanagement by leadership. Efforts were taken to save the studio ahead of the closure; the company invested in new technology to improve the quality of its games, for example. Still, it was all too little, too late. The Telltale brand received a new lease on life in late 2019, thanks to the purchase of its assets by holdings company LCG Entertainment. This version of the once beloved entity has yet to release a debut project, but the team does have a group hard at work on a sequel to The Wolf Among Us. Who knows, maybe a Tales from the Borderlands re-release is something else the crew has up its sleeve.
