The Challenge: Everything You Need To Know About Lolo Jones

Since its debut in 1998, MTV’s The Challenge seems to get more intense each year. This season, dubbed The Challenge: Double Agents, is no exception. The cast of MTV veterans and rookies contains some impressive competitors, and one of the most intimidating has to be Lolo Jones. The bona fide Olympian has kept a relatively low profile in the game so far, but her strength and determination have not gone unnoticed. If the previews are to be believed, Lolo is just getting started.

Although billed as a rookie, Lolo Jones has been on The Challenge before. She competed in The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros mini-series for a grand prize of $50,000 donated to a charity of her choice. Although Lolo fought hard for the Hurdles of Hope program (part of her Lolo Jones Foundation), she was ultimately eliminated in episode six. This season, Lolo paired up Nam Vo of Ultimate Beastmaster at the start of the competition, and the two have managed to stay teamed up throughout the game so far, unlike several other teams that have been infiltrated and split up. Lolo and Nam have not won any challenges yet and neither has entered the ring to get a gold skull to allow them to run T.J. Lavin’s final. However, The Challenge is a marathon, not a sprint, and the track and field athlete shouldn’t be counted out.

The 38-year-old Iowa native is best known for her accomplishments in the sports world. The 11-time All-American hurdler has competed and won medals in many competitions, but most notable was her time on the US Olympic team. In 2008, Lolo ran the 100-meter hurdle at the Beijing Olympics and came in seventh. In 2012, she came in fourth in the same event at the London Olympics. Lolo was set to go to the 2020 Olympics, but, unfortunately, due to the coronavirus, the games were canceled. However, Lolo Jones is one of only 10 Team USA athletes to compete in both summer and winter Olympic sports, according to Team USA, and she has plans to join the team in 2022 at the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Take a look at Lolo stretching it out, perhaps before a big competition, below

Aside from her impressive accomplishments as an athlete, Lolo also has experience on the reality TV circuit. In addition to her stint on The Challenge: Champs vs. Pros, Lolo competed on Dancing With The Stars season 19. Unfortunately, she was the first to be eliminated. She also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother 2, where she made it to the final four. The Challenge: Double Agents is five episodes in, and Lolo is still holding strong. So far, she and teammate Nam have stuck to the middle of the pack and have stayed out of any drama that might put them at risk. But previews of the next episode tease a confrontation between Lolo and veteran player Theresa, and a challenge featuring a “grueling five mile race” that should play to Lolo’s strengths as a track and field athlete.

There’s no doubt Lolo is one of the most physically capable competitors on The Challenge: Double Agents this season, and it looks like she’s ready to pick up the pace and head to the front of the pack. Perhaps this will be the week that the Olympian finally secures a gold skull.
