The delay in the release of Black Widow has led to fans increasing their speculation about the movie. Fan theories in the MCU are all the rage, and there have been a lot of potential ideas circulating that have a good chance of coming true. There are certain others that are just too much of a stretch to be believable, though.
Of course, anything’s possible, and even these might turn out to be accurate somehow, but they do sound hilariously bad given what people know about the film already. These fan theories concern the character of Black Widow in general, along with those that attempt to predict what might happen in her self-titled movie.
10 Perfect: Natasha Was Born Into A Royal Family
The background of the character has so far largely remained unanswered, making it a point of speculation if the movie will confirm which family she was born into. According to this theory, Natasha was a descendant of the Romanov royal family.
The reason for her to stress the importance of having a family in Avengers: Endgame was due to Natasha knowing the Romanov descendants like her were out there, but she couldn’t find them. It’s a good theory that can fully map out the character’s background and prove why she hadn’t been able to reconnect with them.
9 Bad: Black Widow Will Go Back In Time To Revive Tony Stark
Some fans like to think that, due to Black Widow learning from her mistakes, she will try to bring back Tony after somehow coming back to life. This theory figures that Black Widow would be brought to life by Tony during his Snap, and she’ll travel from Vormir to the events of Captain America: Civil War to find the Tony of that time.
It’s just too farfetched and convoluted to translate well onscreen, even more so since the movie is confirmed to be grounded in reality compared to other MCU movies, meaning the whole Time Heist will not be touched upon to the extent it was in Avengers: Endgame.
8 Perfect: The Film Will Take Place In Budapest
Just about every fan wants Black Widow to appear in the Hawkeye TV series, but many also want it to go both ways. Their adventure in Budapest has so far only been alluded to, with this theory claiming that the movie will see Black Widow returning to the city to finish the job she had started with Hawkeye.
It’s a well-thought-out theory since it envisions Clint’s scenes taking place in flashbacks to fill out the gaps in the story while giving Black Widow a goal in mind. Not to mention that she needed a place to hide out after Captain America: Civil War, and Budapest sounds like the best place to be.
7 Bad: Captain America Received Black Widow In Exchange For Returning The Stones
There are a number of things that don’t make sense about Black Widow, but it would be on another level if she was hidden by Captain America for no reason. This theory claims that the post-credit scene of Black Widow will show Captain America returning the Soul Stone and receiving Natasha in return.
While there’s always a slight chance it might happen, it’s still too out there since it would mean that Steve abandoned Natasha somewhere in time and went off to be with Peggy Carter. Considering how close Steve and Natasha were, it seems too out of the realm of possibility for him to ditch her like this.
6 Perfect: Red Guardian Will Become Omega Red
In her time in the series, Black Widow transformed greatly over the years, and it’s just as possible for others to do the same even if it’s antagonistic in nature. According to this theory, Red Guardian will be taken captive and transformed into Omega Red as a way to introduce the Weapon X Program to the MCU.
It sounds like an awesome way to pave the path for the X-Men to arrive, with chances of Wolverine being teased as well. It would also give a clear conflict for Black Widow, since someone she considers family will have become a villain.
5 Bad: Loki Will Free Black Widow From Vormir
The Loki series is set to feature a time travel plot that sees the character jump from planet to planet as well. This theory speculates that Black Widow is one of the glimpses shown in the series’ trailer, due to a striking resemblance. However, it doesn’t consider that Lady Loki is a thing.
Lady Loki is the female form of Loki, who has been shown to shapeshift into a number of characters. This also aligns with Lady Loki being in the Vote Loki comic that is integrated into the show’s plot. Not to mention that Loki has no incentive to free Black Widow, and the Trickster never does anything for the benefit of others.
4 Perfect: Nebula Deliberately Suggested Clint And Natasha For The Soul Stone Retrieval
It became apparent after her death that there were a lot of tragedies in the story of Black Widow. This theory takes things to a sinister level that nevertheless does align with the characterization of Nebula.
According to it, Nebula had deduced that Clint was the person Natasha was closest to and deliberately sent the two to Vormir to collect the Soul Stone, since she knew one of them would sacrifice themselves to save the other and guarantee the Stone’s retrieval. Considering how apathetic Nebula was due to Thanos’ upbringing, it would make sense for her to use this tactic.
3 Bad: Hawkeye Is The Taskmaster
By this point, it should be clear that Black Widow and Hawkeye loved each other more than many siblings ever could, so this theory is just too much of a retcon to be true. According to it, Hawkeye is the Taskmaster and antagonist of Black Widow.
The logic applied is that Taskmaster uses the same finesse with a sword that Hawkeye did when he was operating as Ronin. However, it also ignores the fact that Hawkeye has no beef with Black Widow and that the movie takes place after Civil War, meaning he was under house arrest at the time.
2 Perfect: Taskmaster Is Looking For Revenge For Captain America's Actions
There were many adventures of the Avengers that weren’t shown during the gap between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. This is why this theory makes total sense, which postulates that Black Widow is being targeted by Taskmaster for revenge.
Since Captain America was on the run during this time, Taskmaster will have found Black Widow and decided to get his revenge due to her inclusion in the Avengers. Taskmaster will also have picked up Captain America’s move set, which he’ll use against Black Widow. It’s a great theory that would fill in the story between two movies.
1 Bad: Black Widow's Family Are Androids
There are some moments where Black Widow wasn't the most likable, but nobody would want her to suffer the realization that her family was a fake. According to this theory, Black Widow’s allies in the movie were only androids and never human.
The reasoning for this is due to Black Widow claiming in Avengers: Endgame that she never had a “real” family, meaning she had only had androids as her family. It’s a very outlandish theory that has no chance to be real, especially since the reveal would be seen as more of a gag than a twist.
