Bling Empire: Fans Convinced Friend Group Is Fabricated For Reality TV Show

Some fans believe that the friend group shown on Bling Empire is not real. They question the Netflix reality show's authenticity, but why?

Well, viewers have noticed how members of the main friend group don't seem to get along. Most of the screentime focuses on the little conflicts that emerge, which sometimes lead to big blowups. While Christine Chiu being scared of having more children is reasonable, the men leaping on a massage table to jokingly steal someone's spot isn't. There was also Kim Lee snooping around Anna Shay's bathroom when the latter was hosting a spa day party featuring said massage table. Kim found a penis pump and proceeded to toss it out the window, without even apologizing, or acknowledging that what she did was very rude. Anna understandably became frosty towards Kim, while Kane Lim was caught in the middle and trying to get Kim to understand the consequences of her actions. Meanwhile, Andrew Gray doesn't seem to understand tact. Fans don't like how Andrew and Kelly Mi Li are still together after Bling Empire season one's filming wrapped. Andrew has gotten flak for treating Kelly like his emotional punching bag, though he has promised to work on himself.

Fans went to Reddit to express their disbelief and disappointment. One Reddit user stated that most reality TV productions try to at least create plausible reasons for a group to be together, and they may have a point. Read the post below:

I KNOW reality TV isn’t real, but I feel like usually if they’re going to make a show about a friend group, those people at least have some familiarity with each other. 😂

This show is hilarious because it seems like they just casted people to play their roles and now they’re like “okay so you’re all friends because you’re wealthy and Asian in LA, ignore the huge age ranges and lifestyle differences!”

Cake Boss takes place at a bakery, Big Brother has a giant villa, and so on and so forth. Here, the Bling Empire's cast common thread is that they are all Asian and fairly rich. Even Kevin allegedly has a net worth of $10 million. The Bling Empire cast members may have met at parties and talked shop, but they may not really be close.

Some of the drama and meetings feel forced, like Kane meeting Christine and little "Baby G" for a model-worthy photoshoot. On the other hand, there are dramatic scenes that resonate, such as Christine and her husband Gabriel Chiu breaking the news to his family that she can't have any more children unless they use a surrogate. This is an issue since Gabriel and "Baby G" are descended from the Song Dynasty, and the Song dynasty is serious business. Christine has understandable reservations about raising a second child. "Baby G" is a good baby, but another baby would likely take a greater toll on his mother than his father.

One commenter posted social media content from Instagram which indicates that Cherie, Kane, and Christine are actually friends. This would make sense because Cherie is the friendliest, focusing on her kids and wanting her boyfriend to propose. Kane Lim tries not to cause conflict. Instagram has the following post to emphasize that:

A good portion of Bling Empire features the cast fighting with each other. Kevin keeps portraying himself as a reasonable friend and the only person who gets along with everyone else. High jewelry collectors Christine and Anna keep butting heads, using social events to establish boundaries and areas of rivalry. Does a reality TV star cast need to be friends from the start? Not necessarily. People love Bling Empire just the way it is.
