Frasier Reboot With Kelsey Grammer Returning Happening At Paramount+

The Frasier reboot has been officially confirmed, and it’s coming to Paramount+ with Kelsey Grammer in the leading role. The original series, which was a spinoff of Cheers, aired NBC from 1993 to 2004. Rumors of a revival have circulated for some time, with Grammer himself leading the charge in many ways. Now, Frasier is officially, finally, coming back.

Frasier focused on the eponymous Frasier Crane (Grammer), a psychiatrist and radio advice show host in Seattle, Washington. Grammer led a cast that included David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s brother Niles, John Mahoney as their father Martin, Peri Gilpin as Frasier’s producer Roz, and Jane Leeves as Daphne Moon. Over more than a decade, the series gathered a dedicated fan following through its sharp humor and strong ensemble dynamic. Ever since the series ended, many of those fans have called for more.

That wish is finally coming true. The Frasier reboot has been officially confirmed for a future premiere on Paramount+. Kelsey Grammer will return in the titular leading role, and also as an executive producer. Chris Harris (How I Met Your Mother) and Joe Cristalli (Life In Pieces) will write the series and also serve as executive producers. As of now, no other casting news has been announced. With luck, the rest of the original Frasier ensemble will rejoin Grammer for the new series at Paramount+.

The Frasier revival will be one of the cornerstones of Paramount+ plus’s early programming, and one of several additions to popular franchises like Criminal Minds, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Spongebob Squarepants that are on the way. As the streaming wars continue to heat up, ViacomCBS is clearly digging deep into its back catalog of branded content to compete with the likes of Netflix, HBO Max and Disney+. Frasier may not be in the same conversation as franchises like Star Wars or DC, but for classic sitcom fans, Grammer’s return to his iconic role is certainly welcome news.

Of course, the success of a Frasier revival will depend on more than just Grammer himself. David Hyde Pierce has been approached to return as Niles, according to the Deadline report, but whether or not he has chosen to accept is unclear. There’s no news on the rest of the old Frasier cast either, or what shape exactly the new series will take. Whatever it looks like, fans can look forward to more Frasier antics when the series returns to Paramount+.
