Godzilla vs. Kong will introduce the MonsterVerse's evil version of Monarch, known as Apex. Legendary's monster shared universe will release its fourth installment with Godzilla vs. Kong, and it promises to be the largest one yet. While 2019's Godzilla: King of the Monsters saw Gojira go up against numerous Titans, this new film will unite cinema's most iconic monsters in a brutal clash. As Kong searches for his true home, an enraged Godzilla cuts a path of destruction across the world. This leads to the titular battle, which is guaranteed to pick a winner between Kong and Godzilla.
Throughout all of the MonsterVerse's movies, Monarch has loomed large above the proceedings. The organization, which tracks and defends against Titans, is almost comparable to the MCU's SHIELD. Past films have featured members of Monarch and shown the good and bad sides of their mission. Unsurprisingly, Monarch will continue to have a presence in Godzilla vs. Kong, and this time around, they won't be the only organization interested in the ancient monsters of the world.
Collider got the chance to visit the set of Godzilla vs. Kong and has now revealed a slew of new details about the movie. Among the most intriguing tidbits are those about Apex, Monarch's nefarious counterpart. Also run by humans, Apex is described as "a megalithic organization doing some bad stuff." Heroes Madison (Millie Bobby Brown), Josh (Julian Dennison), and Bernie (Brian Tyree Henry) aim to take down Apex, particularly since they're "doing something to harm Godzilla." Additionally, Apex is described as having a sleek and futuristic look compared to Monarch's government agency appearance.
Little else is known about Apex so far, though eagle-eyed fans spotted its presence in the first Godzilla vs. Kong trailer. Known members of the group haven't been revealed just yet, though Bernie did work for them at some point. Presumably, Apex is being kept a secret so there will be a more dramatic reveal in Godzilla vs. Kong. Clearly, this is an organization with questionable motives, and it will be quite interesting to see what those motives are.
One thing does seem clear though: Apex is the one behind Godzilla's villainous turn. The Godzilla vs. Kong trailer featured the surprising reveal that Gojira is the villain despite being on humanity's side in King of the Monsters. Based on the new plot details, though, it sounds like Apex has been the one orchestrating Godzilla's devastating rampage. What they want from this remains to be seen, but audiences will get to find out when Godzilla vs. Kong premieres next month.
