Marilyn Manson’s Creepshow Episode Scrapped Following Abuse Allegations

Marilyn Manson has been dropped from the Shudder series Creepshow following abuse allegations from Westworld star Evan Rachel Wood and four other women. Wood shared her harrowing experiences with Manson, whose legal name is Brian Warner, on social media; Wood has long been open about her experience with sexual assault, but came short of naming Manson as her abuser until now. Manson has denied the allegations, claiming all of his relationships with his accusers were consensual.

Manson has long courted controversy through his music and acting roles, as well as the volatile, angry persona he's developed over the years. In the wake of the allegations, Manson has been dropped from his record label Loma Vista Records - who will no longer promote his most recent album We Are Chaos - as well as from season 3 of American Gods, where he played an Odin worshipper named Johan. Manson has also been dropped by his publicist and agency CAA.

The fallout continues for Manson, as Shudder has confirmed via Twitter that his segment on Creepshow will be not air. Fans inquired about Manson's involvement with the series after the allegations came to light, and Shudder was quick to note they would no longer be in business with the controversial singer.

Wood's allegations against Manson are harrowing, detailing years of grooming and abuse that ruined her life. Wood's statement suggested she's bracing for backlash from Manson's fans, which is probably a safe bet considering Manson has been speaking about fantasizing about sexual violence, even with Wood in particular, for years. Wood has gone on to be a strong advocate for survivors of sexual assault, speaking in front of Congress on behalf of victims in support of legislation to protect survivors of sexual assault.

Manson has weathered allegations of misconduct before, but in the era of the Time's Up and #MeToo movements, he seems to have run out luck dodging those allegations. The entertainment industry has finally stopped protecting predators as a rule of thumb, and the likes of Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey have seen their careers rightly derailed in the wake of similar allegations. Manson's rigorous denial of the allegations means this is likely not the end of the story, but it's at least an encouraging sign that companies like Shudder and Starz clearly don't want to be in business with a credibly accused sexual predator. It doesn't undo the horrific treatment endured by Wood and the other accusers, but it's at least a step in the right direction for the industry.
