Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury's Secret Improvements Discovered

Gamers are discovering that Nintendo has included several secret improvements to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury within its Switch release of the Wii U title. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury only launched last Friday, but it is already becoming a huge hit for Nintendo. The Switch version of Super Mario 3D World surpassed its Wii U version’s sales in the UK by an incredible three times on its release. This is no small feat, considering that Super Mario 3D World is widely considered the best game from the Wii U era.

One of the more remarkable new features of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is its online multiplayer function. While the Wii U version of the game did have a co-op mode, it was only able to be used when players were using the same console. Online multiplayer has famously served as the focus of games such as Among Us and Fall Guys, which made them lockdown party favorites in 2020. It will no doubt also be well used in Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, as the worldwide effort to stop the spread of coronavirus continues.

Beyond this multiplayer improvement, however, Nintendo has also included other little upgrades to Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, and fans have been uploading their discoveries online. Twitter user MarioToenails shared a side-by-side comparison video that shows how Mario can now use the ground pound animation on the Switch version of the game to hilariously fall down into a pipe. On the Wii U version of the game, even with the ground pound technique being used, Mario still warps with a standard animation, as though Mario did not just slam himself forcefully down onto it. MarioToenails also demonstrated how previously collected green stars within the Switch version of Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury will not need collecting twice, even if the player dies before completing a level.

These small extras included within Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury may not be revolutionary, but they are still a neat little inclusion from Nintendo. This much smoother, faster, and more fluid gameplay shows just how far Nintendo has come in the seven years between each release.

As far as Nintendo's public schedule goes, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury is the only first party Nintendo game releasing on the Switch this year. There are hopes that along with the 35th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series, a new game within the Kingdom of Hyrule will be announced. As of yet, though, the rest of the year looks to be pretty quiet for Nintendo and the Mushroom Kingdom.
