Superman & Lois First Episode Synopsis Revealed | Screen Rant

The official synopsis for the debut episode of Superman & Lois sheds some more light on what's in store for this version of the Man of Steel. Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch reprise their roles as Superman and Lois Lane from prior Arrowverse outings in the new series that sees the couple raising a pair of teenage boys as they grapple with the realities of being modern parents.

The series is set to take Lois and Clark back to Smallville, as Clark tries to give his sons the same kind of wholesome upbringing Jonathan and Martha Kent offered him. Clark is also set to reconnect with his old friend Lana Lang (Emanuelle Chriqui), as well as Lois' military father Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh).

The official rundown of what's to come in the CW series' pilot episode has been revealed via ComicBook. You can read the synopsis below.

In SUPERMAN & LOIS, after years of facing megalomaniacal supervillains, monsters wreaking havoc on Metropolis, and alien invaders intent on wiping out the human race, the world’s most famous superhero, The Man of Steel aka Clark Kent (Tyler Hoechlin, “Teen Wolf”) and comic books’ most famous journalist, Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch, “Grimm”), come face to face with one of their greatest challenges ever - dealing with all the stress, pressures and complexities that come with being working parents in today’s society.

Complicating the already daunting job of raising two boys, Clark and Lois must also concern themselves with whether or not their sons Jonathan (Jordan Elsass, “Little Fires Everywhere”) and Jordan (Alexander Garfin, “The Peanuts Movie”) could inherit their father’s Kryptonian superpowers as they grow older. Returning to Smallville to handle some Kent family business, Clark and Lois are reacquainted with Lana Lang (Emmanuelle Chriqui, “Entourage”), a local loan officer who also happens to be Clark’s first love, and her Fire Chief husband Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez, “Graceland”). The adults aren’t the only ones rediscovering old friendships in Smallville as the Kent sons are reacquainted with Lana and Kyle’s rebellious daughter, Sarah (Inde Navarrette, “Wander Darkly”).

Of course, there’s never a dull moment in the life of a superhero, especially with Lois’ father, General Samuel Lane (Dylan Walsh, “Nip/Tuck”) looking for Superman to vanquish a villain or save the day at a moment’s notice. Meanwhile, Superman and Lois’ return to idyllic Smallville is set to be upended when both a mysterious stranger (Wolé Parks, “All American”) and impassioned self-made mogul Morgan Edge (Adam Rayner, “Tyrant”) enter their lives.

Superman & Lois is a big, important swing for the CW. Hoechlin's Superman was relatively well-received in Supergirl and the other Arrowverse crossovers, but this is the first time the network has been allowed to focus solely on one of DC Comics' greatest icons. Zeroing in on Lois and Clark's domestic life is a solid choice in that it differentiates the series from the DCEU Superman, and even carries on the legacy of Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, the last time the Man of Steel and Lois Lane found unqualified success in live-action TV.

It also appears from the synopsis and trailer that Lois and Clark's two sons don't know their father is Superman, or that they could potentially have inherited his Kryptonian abilities. It will also be interesting to see what version of Morgan Edge the show chooses to embrace. Adrian Pasdar previously played the role on Supergirl, but there's no clear indication that Adam Rayner's take will be the same iteration of the character, which the multiverse of course allows for some wiggle room. Edge could be anything from a relatively benevolent TV executive to a ruthless businessman who becomes one of Superman's most vicious enemies.

Superman & Lois joins the ever-expanding showcase of DC superhero-led TV shows, with The CW leading the way with The Flash, Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, Stargirl, and the departing Black Lightning and Supergirl. The CW's identity in recent years has been defined by its DC heroes, and the network is certainly hoping for a Flash-like hit with this one. Whether or not the show is a hit remains to be seen, though The CW thought enough of it to recently add two episodes to its initial season order; a second season order is yet to be confirmed, though chances are pretty strong the Man of Steel is just getting started on the small screen.
