Valheim released to early access on for PC on Steam February 2nd, and since launch has soared in popularity with fans of survival style games. With more than 2 million copies sold, and still in early stages of development, many may be wondering what is to come for the open-world sandbox game. Currently Valheim developers have a progression map available for players to view in the news feed on Steam, and it appears there is plenty for fans to look forward to.
There are several snags that players have encountered so far while exploring the randomly generated worlds they spawn into. This includes a game breaking bug in Valheim, as well as optimization issues that require fans to play at low resolutions with many of the interesting effects turned off to help ease lagging framerates and gameplay. Despite these issues, Valheim has much to offer players for being such a new early access title, and the good outweighs the bad that players have discovered across while playing.
Fans may be wondering what kinds of new content may be released in future months and if they will increase the number of Valheim's farmable crops, add more animals to tame, or potentially introduce more big fights like Valheim's five current boss battles. Currently there are four clear updates in the works that have the potential to expand these game mechanics, and many others, players have enjoyed so far. While it isn't clear when these updates may be expected, or exactly what will be included overall, information provided in Valheim's Steam Roadmap will definitely peak the interest of players looking for further information.
Below are the four currently anticipated updates that Valheim players might see in the coming months, as well as their basic titles, to give an idea of what the updates may potential introduce into the established gameplay. There is also a list of standalone mechanics which may potentially be added later down the road.
- Update 1 - Hearth and Home
- Update 2 - Cult of the Wolf
- Update 3 - Ships and the Sea
- Update 4 - New Valheim Biome - Mistlands
- Other Potential Content - Multiplayer interactions, combat improvements, moon phases, tar pits, vendor inventory expansions, Svartalfr Brigands, more unique locations, sandbox mode, Munin.
While there are plenty of things coming down the pipeline for Valheim fans to look forward to, there is still a number of mechanics to keep players occupied available in the game's early access state. Between leveling up Valheim skills, building beautiful homes, and exploring every biome to unravel its secrets, Valheim players will be kept busy while they wait for news on when to expect the first update, and what the potential full release date for the game will be.
