Why Agatha Wanted Vision To Escape The Hex | Screen Rant

Agatha may have wanted Vision to escape the hex all along. Agatha began WandaVision as Agnes, Scarlet Witch and Vision’s nosy neighbor in Westview. But, after seven episodes of strange occurrences, expanding hexes, and a puzzled Vision, Agnes finally revealed to Wanda that she was Agatha Harkness, the witch in control of the alternate TV-sitcom reality (cue her catchy theme song, “Agatha All Along”). While the rest of the town’s citizens remained under Agatha’s spell, Vision’s growing suspicions regarding what he believed were Wanda’s actions led him to leave the hex altogether. In a town where no one has been allowed to leave or enter, it’s curious that Vision was able to escape at all and retained his memories once he was back inside.

Vision’s trip to the outskirts of town found him confronting a seemingly frozen Agnes. After alerting him to the fact that he had died in the real world, Agnes sufficiently created even more doubt for the perennially uncertain android. It’s possible that, already knowing that he was doubtful of Wanda and the strange happenings around Westview, Agatha wanted to get rid of him so that she could finally get Wanda alone. After all, Vision was clearly onto something and by offering up the information about his death, Agatha was essentially sending him to his doom once more.

There’s a chance she wanted to kill him again because any further investigations would reveal the truth and she couldn’t have him getting in the way of her perfectly laid plans. Vision was likely becoming far too self-aware for Agatha to continue stifling any of his suspicions, especially when he actively started snooping and briefly breaking the spell trapping the minds of Westview’s citizens to obtain more information. Perhaps Agatha finally saw her opening: kick Vision out of the hex so that she could finally reveal the truth to Wanda. WandaVision has shown that the Scarlet Witch finds any line of questioning about the state of Westview and the real world unbearable.

While Wanda firmly stated that she didn’t know how she and Vision got to Westview, she’s at least in control of certain aspects. When Pietro brings up the possibility of Vision dying again in the sixth episode, titled “All-New Halloween Spooktacular!,” Wanda becomes angry and expands the boundaries of the hex. When Monica Rambeau (as Geraldine) brings up Pietro’s death at the hands of Ultron, Wanda also becomes furious and launches her out of the hex. It’s also possible that Agatha knew Vision would die outside of the hex and wanted Wanda to become emotionally unhinged after losing him once more.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed that Wanda is usually at her most powerful when her feelings aren’t under control. Plus, it was far too easy for Vision to make his way to the edge of town. Agatha likely wanted him to go there and even nudged him along by making her witchy appearance in the car in WandaVision's sixth episode. It’s still unclear what she wants from Wanda; it seems the Westview hex is merely there to punish her for some reason. However, with Vision gone, Agatha could finally take over in the way that she planned, likely attempting to hurt Wanda without interference.
