Here's why comedian Mike Myers rejected a surprise cameo appearance in Halloween H20. Following the weak critical and commercial reception to 1995's Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers, the franchise was in danger of heading straight to video. This was the original plan for the seventh entry Halloween H20, but after Jamie Lee Curtis grew nostalgic for the series that helped launch her career, the movie was later reworked as a theatrical star vehicle reuniting her with iconic slasher Michael Myers.
Halloween H20 finds Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode forced to face her killer brother Michael two decades after the events of Halloween II. The movie also retconned Halloween's 3 to 6 out of existence, which set up a bad habit in the franchise as H20 itself was later retconned by David Gordon Green's 2018 Halloween reboot. That said, H20 is one of the better-received entries in the franchise, with Curtis's famously bringing her mother Janet Leigh - star of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho - in for a cameo. Having already brought two of the most horror famous Scream Queens together onscreen, the sequel nearly went a step further by bringing Michael Myers (the slasher) and Mike Myers (the actor) together.
On Halloween H20's Blu-ray commentary between Jamie Lee Curtis and director Steve Miner, the actress revealed she wanted a scene where Mike Myers passes Laurie on a street, prompting the character to do a comedic double take. Obviously, the gag is a very meta nod to Myers sharing the same name as Halloween's lead slasher, and Curtis herself felt this would have been a funny easter egg. It appears the comedy star himself didn't think so, as according to Curtis on the commentary, Mike Myers bluntly shut the offer down.
Jamie Lee Curtis' exact wording of how Myers '"Shut. Us. DOWN." alludes to the actor responding negatively to the request, though director Miner chips in and states the actor had his own reasons for passing. He doesn't spell out those reasons, though there are a few options. During the filming of Halloween H20 Myers was working on three movies; 54, mockumentary The Thin Pink Line, and Pete's Meteor. As such, he simply may not have had time in his schedule to make it to set for the planned cameo.
There's also the possibility he'd heard the Mike Myers/Michael Myers gag far too many times over the years and had become irritated by it. Regardless, Myers turned down the Halloween H20 cameo and has yet to appear in the franchise. David Gordon Green isn't above a meta nod or two in his take on the series, so maybe Jamie Lee Curtis' wish will yet come true and Myers will pop up in Halloween Kills or planned sequel Halloween Ends.
