Dispo Camera App No Longer Needs An Invite: What You Need To Know

For those interested in giving the new Dispo photo app on iPhone a try, there’s no longer the need to source an invite from someone else or join the waitlist. While this will inevitably open the app up to many more users, there’s still the issue of general device support. A problem that will mean that a number of people wanting to check out the new disposable camera app will have to wait a little longer.

Dispo is not a totally new app, as it was previously available to download under the David’s Disposable name. However, it has gone through a few changes recently, including the addition of new features and a rebranding to Dispo. Regardless of the name, the app is proving to be a popular option in 2021 and has already generated plenty of downloads in the process. Although a significant number of those downloading the app had previously found they were unable to get any further than the login page, due to the need for an invite.

That’s now changed. Today Dispo confirmed via Twitter that it has finally dropped the invite requirement. By association, this also means there is no longer a waitlist to join either. Instead, anyone wanting to check Dispo out and see what it has to offer can simply download the latest version of the iPhone app from the App Store. For those without access to an iOS device, not much has changed.

Although the invite system and waitlist are now gone, device support is still going to be a major hurdle for many. Dispo has so far only been made available on iOS and the removal of the invite restriction wasn't accompanied by the release of an Android app. Therefore, without access to an iOS device, many will find that they are still unable to access the app. While that's expected to change in the future, the lack of Android support isn't anything new. Many app developers tend to go with an iPhone period of exclusivity during early testing and development stages, with Clubhouse another popular app that’s also still unavailable on Android.

Regardless, with the invite system a thing of the past, many more people are likely to give the app a try. For those new users, it is worth knowing that Dispo is slightly different to many other photo apps, including Instagram. One of the more fundamental differences to be aware of is the app does not allow instant access to any photos taken with the app. Instead, and just like a disposable camera, Dispo iPhone users do have to wait until 9 a.m. the next day for their pictures to be developed.
