Dick Wolf's hit show, FBI, is getting an international spinoff on CBS titled, FBI: International. Wolf brought his multi-series FBI franchise to CBS after years of successful collaboration with NBC on his Law & Order and Chicago series. This season alone, FBI has averaged 11 million viewers and has drawn in ViacomCBS, an international market with overseas distribution rights.
From Wolf Entertainment and Universal TV, FBI: International will be the first spinoff in the series, involving a crossover storyline between FBI and FBI: Most Wanted. According to Variety, CBS Entertainment chief, Kelly Kahl, says of the new series: “‘FBI: International’ is an intriguing and distinct drama that perfectly complements its compelling siblings, ‘FBI’ and ‘FBI: Most Wanted,’ creating an enviable triple-threat for next season that will fit seamlessly across our network lineup.”
FBI:International will focus on the elite agents of the international division of the FBI as they travel the world, protecting American citizens whenever and wherever they need assistance. Wolf has been very outspoken about his appreciation for CBS, calling them "a great creative partner" and claiming that they "understand the value of the growing FBI brand." The network is not exactly taking a chance in working with Wolf, as his breakout series, Law & Order, is still going strong on NBC after 30 years on the air and is one of the most successful franchises in TV history.
Wolf will serve as executive producer on FBI: International, along with showrunner Derek Haas (Chicago Fire). Wolf creates accessible and captivating stories that garner fans no matter where the shows air, and CBS is smart to continue to give him space to expand this franchise's universe.
