Hades Wins BAFTA Games Award For Best Game | Screen Rant

During the 2021 BAFTA Games Awards, Supergiant Games' roguelike Hades ran away with a total of five wins, including the prestigious Best Game honor. Hades has become the recipient of several trophies during this awards season over the last few months, most recently beating out The Last of Us Part II for the SXSW Game of the Year award. The roguelike cleaned up nicely elsewhere, too, winning prizes from the Golden Joystiq Awards, The Game Awards, and the British Academy Games Awards.

There's no reason to guess why Hades continues to rake in the accolades. Supergiant launched an Early Access version of the project in 2018, but a full release didn't hit digital stores until last September. The experience quickly became a phenomenon on both PC and Nintendo Switch, thanks to its stunning art style, incredible original soundtrack, and gripping narrative. By bucking the traditional approach to dungeon-crawling roguelikes, Supergiant crafted Hades' roguelike gameplay in a way that even appealed to players who typically avoid the genre in its entirety.

With an impressive nine nominations under its belt, Hades took home five wins during the 2021 BAFTA Games Awards. Best Game counts among the title's five victories, and it was up against some stiff competition. Other nominees in the category included Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Ghost of Tsushima, Half-Life: Alyx, The Last of Us Part II, and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. BAFTA additionally awarded Hades for Artistic Achievement, Game Design, Narrative, and Performer in a Supporting Role (Logan Cunningham).

Since the award season isn't over, Hades may very well bring home a few more trophies for the crew at Supergiant Games. Meanwhile, plenty of fans have their fingers cross for post-launch DLC, though there's nothing to suggest additional content is in the works. And Supergiant's history of not rolling out post-launch DLC, or sequels, implies that players may have to settle with the adventure as it currently stands.

There are also high hopes for a Hades release on other platforms, namely PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The development studio has a pretty extensive history with both platform holders, but jury's out on whether or not this particular trek through Greek mythology will see the light of day on Sony's and Microsoft's hardware.
