Marvel Studios' She-Hulk TV show is reportedly casting a mysterious shapeshifter character. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe began with a move to the small screen for Marvel Studios with WandaVision, and the series is only the start of the content coming to Disney+. After announcing five shows at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel unveiled plans for three more at D23 that year. One of the new properties was She-Hulk, a solo series for Bruce Banner's super-cousin and lawyer Jennifer Walters.
Fans were already excited for the series to see She-Hulk in live-action, but anticipation for the show has only grown thanks to its cast. Orphan Black star Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer Walters in She-Hulk and future MCU projects. Marvel confirmed at the end of 2020 that two familiar faces were returning too, with Mark Ruffalo's Smart Hulk confirmed alongside the long-awaited return of Tim Roth as Abomination. Casting on She-Hulk has continued to pick up in 2021 as Marvel prepares for filming to begin, and fans have continued to speculate who else will appear in the series.
According to a report from The Illuminerdi, a mysterious shapeshifter will be featured in She-Hulk. The site states Marvel is searching for a woman between 20-30 years old to play a recurring character with the codename A'Dood. She is described as "a mysterious shapeshifter that embraces Earth’s pop culture" who enjoys this life and her power. The outlet reports this shapeshifter will appear in two of She-Hulk's ten episodes.
Although the casting details stop short of revealing the true identity of She-Hulk's latest character, it is quite likely that "A'Dood" will be a Skrull. The alien race is the predominant shapeshifters in the Marvel universe, both in the comics and the MCU. They were introduced in the MCU in Captain Marvel and have since appeared in Spider-Man: Far From Home's post-credits too. Ben Mendelsohn's Talos is also confirmed for Secret Invasion and the Skrulls are expected to factor into Captain Marvel 2 as well. If the shapeshifter isn't a Skrull, it could be new takes on Marvel characters like the Hulk villain Abigail Wright or even the mutant Mystique.
If Skrulls do appear in She-Hulk, this could be one example of how Marvel Studios will connect the Disney+ show to one of the MCU's overarching storylines. The series should arrive before Secret Invasion and Captain Marvel 2, so the appearance of this shapeshifter could set up those properties. Any exposure Jennifer Walters has to the Skrulls can then be used to set up her return in either MCU title. Whether or not this shapeshifter turns out to be a Skrull remains to be seen, but it would be an intriguing connection for She-Hulk to include.
