Netflix's Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness Anime Reveals Story & Poster

Netflix has revealed the plot of the upcoming Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness anime series. The first-ever Resident Evil animated show was announced back in September 2020. It will feature Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, two fan-favorite characters and the stars of the highly successful Resident Evil 2 game.

2021 is a pretty substantial year for Resident Evil fans. In two months, Capcom will release Resident Evil Village, the next main game in the franchise. Resident Evil Village has been highly anticipated, which isn't surprising. Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and the Resident Evil 2 remake were both incredible horror-survival experiences. Resident Evil Village will introduce some new enemies, including werewolf-like creatures and a giant vampiric woman. Besides the game, this year sees the release of the next Hollywood production. Unlike the previous live-action movies, the Resident Evil reboot looks to faithfully adapt the source material with the big characters from the first two games. Of course, there's also the animated series coming to Netflix later this year. Like the CGI movies, Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness will be canon to the games.

Netflix has released a full plot synopsis and new images including a poster for Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. The voice actors for Leon and Claire have also been revealed. Leon will be voiced by Nick Apostolides, and Claire will be done by Stephanie Panisello, their voice actors from the Resident Evil 2 remake. Check out the plot synopsis and images below.

"In 2006, there were traces of improper access to secret Presidential files found in the White House’s network. American federal agent Leon S. Kennedy is among the group invited to the White House to investigate this incident, but when the lights suddenly go out, Leon and the SWAT team are forced to take down a horde of mysterious zombies. Meanwhile, TerraSave staff member Claire Redfield encounters a mysterious image drawn by a youth in a country she visited, while providing support to refugees. Haunted by this drawing, which appears to be of a victim of viral infection, Claire starts her own investigation. The next morning, Claire visits the White House to request the construction of a welfare facility. There, she has a chance reunion with Leon and uses the opportunity to show him the boy’s drawing. Leon seems to realize some sort of connection between the zombie outbreak at the White House and the strange drawing, but he tells Claire that there is no relation and leaves. In time, these two zombie outbreaks in distant countries lead to events that shake the nation to its very core."

It looks like Leon and Claire will meet up by coincidence yet again. In the first CGI movie, Resident Evil: Degeneration, the two characters arrived at the same airport by sheer coincidence. It will be interesting seeing how the plot unfolds in Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness. This will be the first time in the timeline Leon has appeared since Resident Evil: Vendetta, and the first onscreen appearance for Claire since Resident Evil: Revelations 2, so fans of both characters have plenty to look forward to.

Although the Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness synopsis provides plenty of detail, it also establishes a mystery with the picture leading Claire to start an investigation. It's fair to expect a thrilling series with the usual Resident Evil zombie action. It will be great for longtime fans to see if there are any references or callbacks to the games. Although not confirmed for this year, Netflix is also developing a live-action Resident Evil series following Wesker's kids. Truly, Resident Evil is about to enjoy some quality releases across different mediums.
