RuPaul's Drag Race fan-favorite Raven will host her own makeup competition show Painted With Raven, which will be available exclusively on the WOW Presents Plus streaming service. The fans first got to know Raven on Drag Race season 2, where she was heavily praised for her fierce makeup skills. Specifically, the way that Raven countered her nose to appear thinner became a huge trend among drag queens from all over the world. In many ways, Raven's nose contouring is still considered a standard for drag performers, which is a testament to the legacy Raven has built on Drag Race.
Raven came back to the series a few times to compete on RuPaul's Drag Race: All Stars 1 and to be a mentor on RuPaul's Drag U. Then, Raven replaced RuPaul's long-time makeup artist Mathu Andersen in Drag Race season 9, and she is still painting Mama Ru to this day. Following that replacement in season 9, Raven has been responsible for the makeup on every single one of RuPaul's in-drag appearances on RuPaul's Drag Race, subsequent seasons of All-Stars, related spin-offs, and Netflix's AJ And The Queen, among others. Now, Raven is getting her turn to shine. In 2020, Raven won her first Emmy Award for Outstanding Makeup from her work on Drag Race.
As reported by Deadline, World of Wonder is currently working on a new reality competition that will be all about challenging the contestants' makeup skills, and it will understandably be hosted by Raven, one of the most influential makeup professionals in RuPaul's Drag Race history. In the casting call seen below, the queen is seen recruiting individuals that "live and die for makeup" to submit their applications for a chance to become Raven's Next Makeup Superstar. The show will be available on WOW Presents Plus, and the winner will take home a grand prize of $25,000.
According to the report, Painted With Raven will be executive produced by RuPaul himself, along with World of Wonder producers Fenton Bailey, Randy Barbato, and Tom Campbell. The entire competition will be filmed remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions. Furthermore, the series is expected to debut on WOW Presents Plus later in 2021. With so many exciting Drag Race-related shows premiering on WOW Presents Plus recently - from RuPaul's Drag Race UK to Canada's Drag Race - it is very likely that Painted With Raven will be either another hit for this emerging, LGBTQ-centered streaming service.
