The Flash Upgrades Season 3's Abra Kadabra Post-Crisis

The Flash season 7 featured Abra Kadabra's return, but with a post-Crisis on Infinite Earths upgrade. The Arrowverse has introduced most of the iconic villains in Barry Allen's rogues' gallery. One of them is Abra Kadabra, played by David Dastmalchian, who was introduced in The Flash season 3 episode titled after him. Established as coming from the 64th century, Abra Kadabra is someone who Barry would face much later in life due to the nature of time travel. When they first faced off, though, Team Flash was introduced to Abra Kadabra's techno-magic, an advanced form of nanotechnology infused into his body.

While Abra Kadabra hasn't been on The Flash in four seasons, Dastmalchian made his return in the episode "Central City Strong" and this time with a significant upgrade. As Abra Kadabra was determined to punish Barry for not vanishing in the Crisis as destined, the 64th century-based baddie came back to 2021 to execute his revenge. This time, however, he wasn't just seen using his abilities with his fingers, but rather with a powerful wand. Abra Kadabra used it multiple times to create the Anti-Matter bomb that he was planning to use on Central City.

The wand is something that does pay homage to some of the DC Comics versions of Abra Kadabra. In several iterations, Abra does normally work with a wand that is based on techno-magic from his century. Since he didn't have it last time he was on The Flash, it's fair to assume that this was something Crisis on Infinite Earths did when rewriting the continuity of the past, present, and future of Earth-Prime. Abra's history was also altered before Crisis after he went back to the future in his first episode on The Flash.

The pre-Crisis version of Abra Kadabra ended up taking Flash's advice on trying to find a glimmer of hope in life. After their first encounter, Abra (or Philippe, as that was his real name) fell in love with a woman named Amélie, and they had a son together, Luca. But because Barry didn't vanish in Crisis, Abra lost his family instead, and once he regained his pre-Crisis memories, that set him on a course to go after Flash in 2021. Given how powerful the wand was that was able to create a bomb made out of anti-matter, it's a significant upgrade from his pre-Crisis era.

It's a shame, though, the power upgrade (as well as his new history) was only for one episode, as The Flash killed off Abra Kadabra. Whoever that Hulk-like creature was that killed him, Abra's final action in life was trying to help Barry, allowing him to die as a hero. But given that the Arrowverse is based on comic book characters and concepts, perhaps this isn't truly the last time The Flash has seen Abra Kadabara.
