TikTok users are finding their FYP has suddenly reset, although it remains unclear what’s happening or what’s causing the issue. Considering how good TikTok’s algorithm is, and the time many invest in getting their For Your Page to just where they want it, a lot of users of the app are likely to be frustrated by this change. Furthermore, that frustration is only likely to increase if the broken FYP issue isn’t fixed soon.
There’s no escaping the fact that TikTok is a popular social media service in 2021. However, this isn't just a matter of a lot of people using the app. Instead, a major part of TikTok’s success is that it can deliver highly relevant content to the user. Whether they are straight, elite, or part of any other TikTok niche, their feeds are perfectly tuned to their interests and the FYP is the gateway to all those videos.
However, over the last few hours, many TikTok users have found their FYP has been reset. Users of the app have not only taken to other social media services, including Twitter, to highlight the issue, but Down Detector has also noted a huge spike in complaints. All of which indicate that while the issue isn’t affecting every TikTok user, it is affecting enough for it to be a problem and a major cause for concern for the many impacted.
The FYP is the heart of the TikTok experience and how users find all the videos that are almost tailored-made for their interests. However, with the FYP having seemingly been reset, those highly customized feeds are now gone. Instead, users are being presented with videos that are far more generic, compared to their interests. As the relevance of the content is based on their likes and interests, in its current state, the content has gone from highly relevant to irrelevant, and not that dissimilar to if they had just downloaded the app for the first time.
At present, it remains unclear what is causing the issue. TikTok has yet to officially state whether there is a problem, leaving many on social media and elsewhere to speculate on what’s going on. Regardless of the reason, while the app continues to deliver irrelevant content to its substantial user base, there are going to be many on TikTok either finding the app to be not as useful as it once was, or desperately trying to re-like as much content as possible, in hope of bringing their FYP back in line with their interests.
