This November, publisher Del Ray Books, in conjunction with Blizzard Entertainment, will release Warcraft: Sylvanas - a novel penned by Christie Golden that aims to tell the "definitive story" of World of Warcraft's Sylvanas. Known as the Banshee Queen, Sylvanas is a character with a long history in Warcraft lore, debuting nearly two decades ago in 2002's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. It's fitting, then, that her story will soon receive much more depth.
Sylvanas has especially sat at the center of attention over the course of the last several months, given her role as an integral player in World of Warcraft's Shadowlands expansion, which Blizzard deployed in November 2020. Following the events in Battle for Azeroth, many a WoW player walked away with one burning question - What were Warchief Sylvanas' long-term intentions? Shadowlands tackles this much and more upfront, lifting the veil on a plot revolving around the Jailer, one of World of Warcraft's newer big bads. By year's end, fans can expect to dive even deeper into what drives Sylvanas Windrunner.
On November 9, 2021, Random House imprint Del Ray Books will publish an officially licensed original novel, Warcraft: Sylvanas, written by award-winning author Christie Golden, who is no stranger to expanding upon the World of Warcraft universe. A press release touts the novel as the "definitive story" for Sylvanas Windrunner, and it may certainly seem that way to audio listeners since the legendary character's voice actress, Patty Mattson, is on board to narrate the audio book. Preorders are live now on Random House's website and wherever else books are sold. Check out the official cover art below:
Warcraft: Sylvanas could prove a must-buy for countless World of Warcraft fans. Plus, it seems Sylvanas' epic story is in good hands with Christie Golden at the helm. In addition to serving as a Senior Writer at Blizzard, as well as the author of several WoW books, Golden has also penned a few fan-favorite Star Wars novels and short stories.
World of Warcraft faithful have even more to look forward to in the months ahead. Most notably, the Chains of Domination 9.10 update is expected to launch sometime this year, ushering in a 10-man boss raid, a new zone - Korthia, the City of Secrets - and new anima powers for Torghast.
Warcraft: Sylvanas is available for pre-purchase now and releases later this fall on November 9.
