Who Would Win? Iron Man Vs Dr. Strange, Based On Intelligence

Doctor Strange and Iron Man have a bit of a budding rivalry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Beards and quips aside, they are two of the most intelligent characters in all of the Marvel films. Of course, others like Shuri may be smarter, but that's not to say their intelligence hasn't played an important factor in the movies too.

Iron Man has had a much longer career in the MCU so fans know a little more about this iteration of the character, but a number of arguments can be put forward as to which one would ultimately win in the battle of the brains. Each one certainly brings a different type of intelligence to the table, which makes them so formidable.

10 Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer

Doctor Strange wasn't initially portrayed as the Sorcerer Supreme, but he has grown into the role as the films have progressed. This gives him a great deal of knowledge that very few others possess. For Strange, he clearly outranks Stark in the mystical department.

Science and magic intersect one another in an interesting way, and thanks to the intense reading that Doctor Strange has undertaken, he has a clear advantage of understanding some of the deeper workings of the universe. This could come into play when facing off against a scientist like Iron Man.

9 Iron Man: The Futurist

While Doctor Strange might be able to better understand that of the worlds of sorcery, Stark is a self-proclaimed futurist, and it's clear to see in his work. He's a forward thinker, constantly a step ahead of everyone else (although this has caused its fair share of trouble).

It's this ability to think ahead that could put him at an advantage when it comes to dealing with Strange. He may have even foreseen the problems of overcoming magic and come up with a failsafe as to how to combat this threat (as is often the case).

8 Doctor Strange: Mystical Time Travel

Doctor Strange has a great understanding of how the time stream works. His magical connection to the Time Stone came in great use when facing off against Thanos and this knowledge would no doubt be similarly available in a battle against Iron Man.

Stark may be a futurist, but Strange can quite literally use his abilities to see the future. It takes a great mind to be able to navigate this effectively. Of course, Strange's costume is partially defined by the Eye of Agamotto, which held the stone.

7 Iron Man: Scientific Time Travel

The Eye does do a lot of the heavy lifting for Strange though, who has simply learned about something that has been passed down through the Sorcerer Supremes over the years. Tony Stark, on the other hand, developed his own time-traveling machine.

He was one of the first people to be able to crack the case and demonstrated just how intelligent he really was. With this kind of knowledge, it's clear that he could use it in all sorts of ways, perhaps combatting the gifts of Stephen Strange in the time department.

6 Doctor Strange: Medical

Benedict Cumberbatch has played a wide range of intelligent characters - from Sherlock Holmes to Alan Turing. He once again manages to bring an impressive mind to screen with Stephen Strange, who starts life out as a top surgeon.

While the money and fame are definitely perks of the job, a number of skills can be carried over from the medical profession into that of the superhero career. Needless to say, it's certainly useful in dealing with injuries in battle as well as understanding how to preserve, or if need be, take life. This is all vital knowledge in the field.

5 Iron Man: Technological

Strange holds a great deal of magical and medical knowledge, although Stark can make up for all of that with his technological vision. Stark is at the cusp of innovation in the world and has such access to the latest state-of-the-art gear.

His Iron Man armor is constantly evolving because of this, making him ready for any threat that may be heading his way. Strange can't match technological minds, with Stark giving Iron Man the advantage when playing on home turf.

4 Doctor Strange: Adaptable

Doctor Strange is far more adaptable than Tony Stark could ever be. Stark has more of an ego, whereas Stephen Strange has gone through a journey that ultimately saw him lose that arrogance and become far more capable of evolution.

Stark can't deal with being wrong and therefore doesn't turn to a new idea in the heat of battle when the time comes. Strange is also a little better at thinking on his feet in the moment, perhaps carrying with him a bit more common sense that Stark has. Tony is a far more logical thinker in many ways, leading to the wrong decision sometimes.

3 Iron Man: Strategist

Iron Man is a tactical strategist and a great leader. He helped to pioneer the superhuman registration act in the comics and achieves something similar in the MCU. While Captain America usually heads up the Avengers, Iron Man is normally second in command.

This strategist mindset usually allows Stark to take big risks that sometimes don't pay off leading to crushing defeats. Yet, his bold tactics can also give him the advantage against Doctor Strange, who sometimes makes much smaller plans to achieve his goals.

2 Doctor Strange: Continuing To Learn

Doctor Strange is really willing to continue to develop his knowledge further. The ego on Stark means that he usually believes himself to be the smartest guy in the room and therefore doesn't need to do any additional research to expand his mind.

Strange, on the other hand, never stops developing his techniques and learning from others, whether it's peers or by reading books. Stark might work with someone like Bruce Banner but never learn from them. This is why Strange's intelligence will continue to grow.

1 Iron Man: Inventor

Iron Man ended his journey in the MCU by inventing his own gauntlet in the heat of battle to house the Infinity Stones. It's that kind of ingenuity that ultimately allowed him to create the iconic armor to begin with and continues to help him win in battle.

Iron Man will never stop inventing things, which is why he's always a step ahead. Ultimately, Iron Man will likely win the intelligence battle between the two because he can think of some way to invent a device or weapon that solves his problems and combat foes like Strange.
