Although 90 Day Fiancé star Yara Zaya is how one of the most-loved cast members alongside husband Jovi Dufren, her journey on season eight had a rocky start. When Yara arrived in New Orleans from Ukraine, fans saw her complain about everything, from Jovi’s house, to the dirty streets, to his drinking, to his apartment decor. While Yara may not go back to her snooty-self on 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? the teasers still show her unhappiness about Jovi’s underwater robotics job and even his mom, Gwen. Still, Yara has come a long way since her early days on 90 Day Fiancé.
The 90 Day Fiancé season eight trailer hinted at Yara worrying about her future in America with Jovi, especially with him always “being out” and “drunk.” While this may have been foreshadowing on TLC’s part, Yara’s first impression on the show was a fail, with her saying, “I don’t know what exactly I love about Jovi.” Just as Yara added that she may have liked the body Jovi used to have, fans started predicting that Jovi and superficial Yara wouldn’t make it. The Kyiv-native upped her snobbishness by calling Jovi’s apartment “small” and asserted that Bourbon Street smelled “like pee and throwing up.”
After saying “Ukraine looks better than America,” 90 Day Fiancé star Yara complained about Gwen’s cooking skills and rejected her wedding ceremony ideas. When asked by Jovi to spend the night at his mother’s house, Yara threatened to go back to her country, something she did quite often later on. But then, Yara found a new subject to cry about – Jovi's job. Fans thought that was especially weird since she should have known about his work trips before getting the K-1 visa. However, viewers soon realized Yara’s source of anger was Jovi abandoning her during her miscarriage surgery to work, leading to trust issues.
Alongside Jovi’s absence from her life as Yara struggled to stay alone in America without friends, she found out she was pregnant. The news led her to ask Jovi to stop drinking so much. Compared to Yara asking Jovi to abandon alcohol, their argument in the furniture store over rug designs started to seem small. The couple butted heads over Jovi’s drinking, which has now become apparent through several scenes, from his early morning airport session to buying beers when out shopping for diapers. “If you wanna be with me, you need to stop the drinking,” Yara told her 90 Day Fiancé husband.
The engagement party Jovi’s parents threw for him and his 90 Day Fiancé partner Yara also ended up with her in tears over her husband-to-be drinking with friends and not paying attention to her. The days leading up to their wedding also had her and Jovi bicker over several other issues, including him partying out late at a strip club even though a pregnant Yara had a fall earlier in the day. Yara also complained when Jovi made the Las Vegas wedding about himself by inviting his “Cajun Crew” when Yara wanted to elope.
Things now appear fine for Yara and Jovi in 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? season six, with Mylah’s father admitting he enjoyed his party boy lifestyle “while it lasted” but is now ready to move on. But the promo for episode three shows Yara crying about Jovi having to leave for Guyana for two months. With the coronavirus pandemic affecting Jovi’s work shifts, the latter 90 Day Fiancé episodes may show the fussy side of Yara all over again.
90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? airs Sundays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
