Viewers were horrified during the second half of the 90 Day: The Single Life Tell-All episode when unaired footage of Big Ed going to a sperm bank was forced upon them. Fans praised part 1 of the Tell-All, but when part 2 dropped, they didn’t appreciate the “bonus” scenes they were shown. Big Ed has earned a bad reputation with fans, and the video of his sperm bank escapades didn’t help him. With the response to the footage being near-universal disgust, why on Earth did TLC show it?
Big Ed was a central point in the Tell-All episode, and many fans were glad that the rest of The Single Life cast called him out on his problematic behavior. A lot of part 1 was spent on Ed’s ex-girlfriend Liz and her descriptions of what went on when the cameras weren’t rolling. Then, in part 2, the discussion turned to having children, and though Big Ed wanted to get a vasectomy, he revealed that he made plans to freeze some of his sperm in case Liz wanted to have another baby.
Unfortunately for viewers, this topic didn’t end with the discussion, and self-shot footage of Ed's trip to the sperm bank was shown. Big Ed has been criticized in the past for giving too much information, but this was ridiculous. He walked viewers all the way through the process, including a joke about not doing any heavy lifting, so while procuring his sample he will “use both hands.” At one point, after the collection process, a sweaty Big Ed even holds up his specimen to the camera (though it was mercifully blurred out).
The entire cast recoiled, and even host Shaun Robinson put her notecard over her face and cringingly asked, “is it over yet?” Fans online responded just as strongly. “This segment should have had its own unique disclaimer. I legit threw up,” one Reddit commenter said. Many reported feeling “harassed” by Big Ed and the footage, referencing his previous sexual assault allegations. “They literally gave a sexual predator a platform to harass all of their viewers,” a fan said. But more than anything else, it was just “gross.”
Because 90 Day: The Single Life exclusively airs on the streaming platform Discovery+, the show is uncensored, and the f-bombs fly free. Many fans like that about the show, but the footage of Big Ed’s excursion to the sperm bank went too far. The clip disgusted viewers across the board and should never have been shown at all. Uncensored shows are one thing, but it all comes down to common sense and good taste—and the Tell-All episode lacked both when it let Big Ed show off his little swimmers.
