Adam Lambert is one of many singers to have a successful career after appearing on American Idol. He appeared on season eight of the show in 2009, where he was the runner-up to Kris Allen. After American Idol, Adam's debut album, For Your Entertainment, debuted at number three on the Billboard 200. He worked with many prominent artists and producers on the album, including Lady Gaga and P!nk. The single "Whataya Want from Me" peaked at number 10, making it his highest-charting single to date. Adam released his second album, Trespassing, in 2012. Since American Idol, Adam has been singing, acting, and engaging in activism for the LGBTQ+ community.
Soon after releasing his second album, Adam began collaborating with the band Queen, singing with them in place of the late Freddie Mercury. His third album, The Original High, was released in 2016 to positive reviews. In between his musical endeavors, Adam continued to appear on television. He has guest-starred as a mentor and guest judge on American Idol several times since his season, and has also gotten into acting. He has appeared on shows like Pretty Little Liars and Glee as a guest star, as well as co-starring in the television remake of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In 2021, Adam is still making music by himself and with Queen, as well as acting and participating in activism. He released his fourth studio album, Velvet, in 2020. He and Queen also released their first album together last fall, called Queen + Adam Lambert Live Around The World. They are planning a European tour for 2022. Adam appeared in the comedy Moonbase 8 last fall as well, in a non-musical acting role. He also played a role in Ratatouille the Musical, which was streamed in January.
Adam is also heavily involved in LGBTQ+ activism. He has been openly gay since he appeared on American Idol, which was unusual then. "Whataya Want from Me" made him the highest-charting openly gay artist at the time. Adam has supported organizations like The Trevor Project, the Olena Pinchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation, Broadway Cares, and UNICEF. In 2020, he founded a non-profit called the Feel Something Foundation, after a single on his album Velvet. Its goal is to support LGBTQ+ organizations and help the community. Adam auctioned off several of his stage outfits to raise funds for GLAAD with the foundation.
Although he was dating model Javi Costa Polo in 2019, Adam is currently single. At only 39, Adam has certainly had an amazing amount of success. He may be remembered most from American Idol, but his achievements far outweigh what he did on the show. 2021 Adam Lambert is all about giving back to the community and expanding his career.
