High School Musical The Musical: The Series: 10 Songs That Need To Be In Season 2

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 started streaming new episodes on May 14 on Disney+, coming off a very successful first season that began airing in 2019. To the shock of fans and the students at East High, the spring musical isn't going to be High School Musical 2, as originally predicted, but instead the stage adaptation of Beauty and the Beast.

Despite not doing the stage version of HSM2, the first episode of season 2 already includes a compilation of hits from the second movie, including Ricky singing his heart out to "Bet On It" and a duet between him and Nini to "You Are The Music In Me." Since the show found a way to work those classics in, there are a few more from both HSM2 and Beauty and the Beast that need to be included in the rest of the season.

10 "Work This Out"

In High School Musical 2, Troy inspires his best friends and co-workers to keep working at Sharpay's Country Club with "Work This Out." The entire ensemble sings on the track and bangs various pots and pans, making it impossible not to join along.

In the series, it's possible that the East High drama department may need to feel inspired once they face off against North High in the Alan Menken Awards for High School Musical Theatre. It's safe to say that fans would love to see Ricky, Miss Jenn, or even Gina leading the charge to this number and motivating their peers.

9 "Gaston"

"Gaston," the musical number in Beauty in the Beast, is a hilarious song about all the reasons that Gaston is the most eligible bachelor and why Belle should want to be with him.

EJ Caswell has been cast as Gaston in East High's production, and this performance would be an amazing follow-up to last season's "A Billion Sorrys." Plus, with Big Red as LeFou, the entire segment would be pure comedy and joy for fans.

8 "I Don't Dance"

A fan-favorite song in High School Musical 2 is the baseball dance-off in the second act called "I Don't Dance." Chad and Ryan go head to head teaching each other new skills and even trade outfits by the end of the scene.

"I Don't Dance" is as much of a staple to the second film as "Bet On It," so it needs to be included in the second season of HSMTMTS. Perhaps it could be between Carlos and EJ since they are the choreographer and the big man on campus, respectively. Or even Carlos and Ricky, as Carlos attempts to get Ricky more settled into the role of the Beast.

7 "Be Our Guest"

"Be Our Guest" is a huge number in Beauty and The Beast, as all the inanimate objects (who are, of course, animate) welcome Belle to the Beast's castle.

North High could sing "Be Our Guest" as they welcome East High to their performing arts center, or both schools could sing it together as they prepare for the big competition. Either way, the musical number is bound to be big and grand, much like the original.

6 "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a"

One of the funniest scenes in High School Musical 2 is when Sharpay steals Troy away to sing him her original song, "Humuhumunukunukuapua'a." It's almost a stage production of itself, and Troy is terrified by the end of it.

Gina could put a charming spin on this song as she shows off her skills as co-choreographer to Carlos. If they bicker over their shared duties as dancers, Gina could make a case for herself with this solo number, making it live up to the hype of Ashley Tisdale's version in the movie.

5 "If I Can't Love Her"

The Beast sings this hauntingly beautiful love song about Belle in Beauty and The Beast as he begins to realize how much he cares for her. At this point in the show, The Beast realizes how much Belle has changed him for the better.

Since Ricky has been cast as the Beast, it seems only fitting that he would sing this song. He also has found himself in a bit of a love triangle between Nini and Gina, so he could be thinking about either one of them as he performs it.

4 "Gotta Go My Own Way"

Vanessa Hudgen's heartbreaking "Gotta Go My Own Way" in the second film was true pain for all Troy and Gabriella lovers when the movie premiered back in 2007. Her decision to walk away from the country club was noble but disappointing and remains one of the saddest songs in the series to date.

It only makes sense that East High's own Gabriella, Nini, would sing this tune in the second season. While viewers might expect her to break up with Ricky through the lyrics, it's also possible she may leave her boarding school while channeling her inner Vanessa Hudgens.

3 "Something There"

"Something There" is sung by Belle as she realizes that the Beast is not all bad, and he is actually very misunderstood. If only someone -- like her -- would give him a chance, perhaps he could become a better person.

Several members of the cast could sing this number, including Ashlyn about Big Red, as he struggles with his first role in a musical. Additionally, Gina could sing this about EJ since his character has developed and become more mature since the beginning of last season. It would be the most fun as a group performance, with various cast members singing about one another.

2 "Everyday"

One of the most underrated songs in High School Musical history is the number performed toward the end of the second film, "Everyday." Gabriella makes a surprise appearance at the talent show and duets with Troy before all of their friends join in and win the competition.

If Nini returns to East High, this could be the song she surprises her friends and Ricky with upon arrival, or if there's a conflict between any of the main cast members, this number would absolutely resolve it. One thing's for sure: "Everyday" must be included for the season to live up to its full potential.

1 "Beauty And The Beast"

"Beauty and The Beast" is sung by Mrs. Potts at the end of the stage production, as the Beast -- and all the objects -- return to their normal form. It's a beautiful love song that brings Belle and the Beast together and wraps up the musical.

East High's Mrs. Pott's Kourtney practiced this song in the Valentine's Day episode of season 2, but it would be great to see her sing the whole song on stage. Dara Renee's Kourtney has one of the best voices in the cast and hearing a full stage version of this song with everyone in costume is a necessity.
