Monster Hunter Rise Fan Completes 1,000 Origami Switch Axes Journey

A Monster Hunter Rise player has successfully made 1,000 Origami Switch Axes to claim their wish. Last month Twitter user Ceph0rend posted that they were going to attempt crafting 1,000 Origami Switch Axes. The significance of that number comes from the in-game description, which says that whoever collects 1,000 of them will be granted a wish.

The Origami Axe is one of the special weapon designs that players can make in Rise. It requires parts from Aknosom, Volvidon and Almudron to craft, as well as Kamura tickets. Monster Hunter has always had unique, comedy, or special weapons throughout the series’ history. Sometimes the designs are based on the community. Monster Hunter World’s Wyvern Ignition Great Sword was the winner of a community weapon design contest that Capcom held, just like the Black Eagle Charge Blade.

Twitter user Ceph0rend posted that they completed all 1,000 Switch Axes and already had their wish – the ducks from Monster Hunter Frontier. The wish is obscure for those not overly familiar with Monster Hunter. Frontier was an online spin-off game that expanded on the original series. It was known for its over-the-top style of combat, monster designs, and unique weapons exclusive to the series. The ducks themselves were known as Gu-Ku, which were pets similar to the Poogie or Kahoot. Like the other pets, Gu-Kus could have their names and outfits changed. There are also different weapon designs based on the ducks that players could make in Frontier.

Frontier’s ducks returning may not happen since Capcom is reluctant to use content from Frontier. Part of this is because any of the myriads of original monsters from the game would need to be remade from the ground up to work with the main game series. Gu-Kus could make it into Rise since they were not a huntable monster in the first place, but Capcom may be reluctant because of the unfamiliarity of the pet with fans.

Whether or not Ceph0rend’s wish is granted remains to be seen, as the community waits for a response from Capcom. The company listens to a lot of fan feedback, so it is possible that it already had something planned for this occasion. Nevertheless, finishing the 1,000 Switch Axes is a feat, considering the amount of Aknosoms, Almudrons and Volvidons they had to hunt to acquire all the parts for the weapon. It will be interesting to see if Capcom rewards Ceph0rend for their dedication to completing this arsenal.
