Valheim Player Builds a Castle On the Ocean Without Using Mods

In Valheim, building on the water is a difficult task, but one player has managed to build a gorgeous castle in the middle of the ocean. Such a feat deserves praise simply because of the inherent difficulty of water builds. Dozens of impressive Valheim builds come to light every week, but there’s a special appreciation in the community for ones that players have managed to put in the ocean.

Impressiveness also scales with size in Valheim. Players should feel great pride in creating any kind of original structure in the game, but some just garner more attention than others. For example, builds that make players look tiny—like insignificant specs—often draw wide eyes and gaping jaws. Much like in other survival games with building mechanics, the community enjoys experimenting with Valheim’s limits. Thankfully, those limits are rarely ever truly reached, giving games like this endless potential and typically long lifespans. The brilliance is in the customization of everything; even common builds like castles can be repeatedly altered to different players’ tastes.

This apparently includes putting castles on private islands in the middle of the ocean. Reddit user VociferousBiscuit posted an image of their Valheim castle on Monday, and to the surprise of many, it’s not attached to any landmass. The gallery that VociferousBiscuit uploaded shows the castle inside and out, and it’s an astounding architectural accomplishment. However, what truly sets this build apart is that no mods were used in the process. Instead, they were able to erect a small island to use as a base for the castle.

On its current trajectory, Valheim is set to hit 8 million sales by the end of June, and it just released as an early access game on Steam in February. Much of Valheim’s of success can be compared to that of Minecraft; both are survival games that encourage players to explore, defeat mobs, and build shelter in order to reach the finale. Minecraft has been around in some form or another for over a decade, and it’s managed to become the best-selling game of all time. While that’s an unrealistic goal for Valheim’s developer, Iron Gate Studio, it’s well on its way to achieving similar milestones.

The truth is that Valheim and similar games’ success stories only last as long as their communities continue to support them. With that said, the current speed at which Valheim players share their experiences and builds indicates that Valheim still has a lot of time left in the industry. More huge, beautiful Valheim builds are still on the horizon. Now it’s up to Iron Gate Studio to continue updating and improving the game. The more that’s added to Valheim, the more dedicated and numerous its fans will become.
