Far Cry is no stranger to war-torn tropical locations, and Far Cry 6 is taking players to the Caribbean island of Yara, a fictional nation ruled by dictator Antón Castillo. Toppling a fascist regime can't be done alone, and aside from a slew of side characters expected to appear throughout the game, players will be able to bring a few animal companions along for the fight.
Following a lengthy delay, Far Cry 6 is scheduled to release in October. Ubisoft has promised the sixth installment of the first-person action series will take place on the largest map yet, and a recent Far Cry 6 gameplay showcase gave a closer look at the inhabitants of that map, including protagonist Dani, some supporting characters, and the adorable wiener dog Chorizo. A dachshund missing his hind legs, Chorizo instead has prosthetic wheels, complete with a small wagon to carry supplies important to the revolution.
Juan Cortez, an ex-KGB spymaster, serves as the player's mentor in Far Cry 6, helping them flourish as a guerrilla fighter. Juan himself has Guapo, a vicious crocodile, as a faithful companion. While less cuddly than Chorizo, Guapo has a sense of fashion, hanging out in a zip-up shirt at the bar with Juan. He can be brought along with the player to violently rend Castillo’s men.
It goes without saying that a dachshund is not much of an attack dog (though it does make for a nice real-life Far Cry 6 collectible), especially one with only two legs. But Chorizo is undeniably cute, which likely helps him distract enemy soldiers - a tactic Ubisoft recommends for stealthily taking out guards. Guapo, on the other hand, is anything but sly. A massive croc, especially one dressed so fetchingly, isn’t suited for stealth. Players more interested in taking the loud approach will probably want to bring Juan's trusty sidekick with them.
Far Cry has had animal companions tag along before, and the Fangs For Hire system from Far Cry 5 appears again as the Amigos system in Far Cry 6. Chorizo and Guapo are the only two animal companions revealed for the base game so far, though a white panther named Champagne will be available as part of the Vice Pack DLC. It's unclear whether or not there will be more available in Far Cry 6’s tropical sandbox once it’s released.
