Batman's Newest Ally Has Made A Bigger and Better Batcave

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Batman #109

In the latest issue of DC Comics' Batman, the Dark Knight's newest ally Ghost-Maker has revealed his own bigger and better version of the Batcave. Since coming onto the scene in Gotham after the Joker War, it's been made quite apparent that Ghost-Maker thrives on competition with Batman, seeking to out-do his old friend in all sorts of ways, treating their rivalry as a means to sharpen his skills while also finding joy in proving himself the "better" vigilante. While this used to have darker and more vengeful undertones due to a rift in their friendship during their youth, the Dark Knight and Ghost-Maker have recently buried the hatchet and become partners, leading to a much more positive and fun rivalry such as with the reveal of Ghost-Maker's new digs in this new issue.

Not much is known about Ghost-Maker, and his real identity is even more secret than Batman's due to his choice to wear a mask even when he's not on patrol. In their youth he and Bruce Wayne trained to become the men they are today at the same time, becoming sparring partners and friends (at least until the aforementioned rift). In comparison to Batman, Ghost-Maker has taken his crime-fighting efforts to much more global scale, as he's not driven by personal vengeance like the Caped Crusader. Instead, Ghost-Maker is a vigilante and crime-fighter purely for the art of it and a general desire to make the world a better place once he's through. For the time being however, Ghost-Maker has elected to spend time in Gotham working with Batman, though he's also been jumping at any chance to one-up his old friend and new partner.

Now, Batman #109 from writer James Tynion and artist Jorge Jimenez sees Batman asking Oracle to call in Ghost-Maker for backup, as he's heading to confront Simon Saint, Gotham's sinister new player who's in league with Scarecrow. However, Ghost-Maker is busy getting himself acquainted with Harley Quinn, unveiling his new base of operations known as the Haunt, complete with a bigger Spinosaurus to rival the T. rex in Batman's old cave, as well as a high-tech car he's elected to call the Ghost-Racer (though it's sill being outpaced by Batman's Batmobile).

It's certainly an impressive HQ, especially considering that Batman no longer has his traditional Batcave after the events of Joker War. Now, he has a series of micro-caves all throughout Gotham, with the biggest one being little more than a simple garage for his Batmobile. This is all part of Batman's reduction in funds and resources that he lost thanks to the Joker, combined with his choice to not have such a large arsenal all in one place, creating one easy target for his enemies to take advantage of.

All that being said, it certainly seems like Ghost-Maker does not share those same concerns with his own tech and gadgets, finding the perfect opportunity to one-up the Dark Knight in his current series with a Batcave of his own. Regardless, it certainly seems as though Batman could have used Ghost-Maker's and Harley's help instead of them chatting it up in the Haunt, as Simon Saint has just unleashed his new Peacekeeper-01 on the Dark Knight at the issue's end.
