Battlefield 2042 debuted its first gameplay at Microsoft's E3 conference, showcasing many of the things that fans adore from the series in a large fashion. Battlefield 2042 is the first game in the series to return to a "modern" setting since Hardline in 2015, as the series has largely been recreating the two World Wars in past entries. The latest trailer for 2042 seems to invigorate all of the feelings of classic Battlefield.
Last week, EA debuted the reveal trailer of Battlefield 2042, which received a rather warm reception. After the disappointment of Battlefield V, it looked like EA and DICE may have cracked the formula of what fans really look to Battlefield for and put it all in one trailer. Of course, it's not hard to create a CG trailer that appeals to fans. What matters is gameplay and somehow, EA was actually able to recreate some of the moments from the reveal trailer within the Battlefield 2042 gameplay reveal.
The Battlefield 2042 gameplay trailer is essentially a highlight reel of a match on Hourglass, a sand-covered neon city. In it, fans can see all of the usual chaos that the series is known for combined with Battlefield 2042's 128 player count. Some particular standouts are the usage of the grappling hook, unique to specialist Webster McKay, the incredible sandstorm and tornado, as well as new gameplay mechanics such as the Plus system which allows players to change weapon attachments on the fly. There's even a recreation of the pretty slick ATV/helicopter collision from the trailer.
Now, players have a pretty good impression of what Battlefield 2042 is all about. It's very reminiscent of the likes of Battlefield 4 with plenty of intense gunfights and chaotic, dynamic moments. As of right now, the game looks to be shaping up quite nicely and since there are plans to show more of the game at EA Play in July, there's plenty more to be excited about.
There is no campaign in Battlefield 2042, so it's good to see that the multiplayer is looking stellar. With so much time and so many resources being poured into this game, it could result in the best Battlefield to date simply since there's a large focus on refining the multiplayer and giving the fans what they've been wanting since around 2013. The future is bright for Battlefield so long as the game plays well; hopefully, DICE can deliver a launch without too many issues as opposed to its usual, bumpier launches.
Battlefield 2042 will release on October 22, 2021 for PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
