David Schwimmer shared some behind-the-scenes images from the Friends reunion where he posed with castmates Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc. The HBO Max reunion special was a watershed moment for fans of the comedy where they were able to see the group as a whole on the set of the NBC series for the first time in 18 years as the actors recreated memorable scenes, spoke of some of their favorite Friends moments and enjoyed being in one another's company.
Since the Friends reunion special began streaming on May 27, Schwimmer has used his social media account to highlight some of his favorite moments from the taping as well as some personal pics alongside his former castmates. The ensemble appeared to fall right back into place with their banter and personal relationships, highlighting a decade when the cast's interplay was one of the key reasons NBC Thursday nights were must-see television.
In a series of six photographs, Schwimmer shared with his Instagram followers many key behind-the-scenes people who helped to make this event possible. In the first photograph, the former castmates posed with director and executive producer Ben Winston. Following was an image of the table reads where cast members recreated key moments from the series for the first time since the episodes originally aired. Highlights were "The One Where Everybody Finds Out," "The One With the Jellyfish,” and “The One Where Ross Finds Out.” Included was a scene still with reunion host James Corden, a group photo of the male stars with Assistant Director Ben Weiss, a cast huddle before the taping and the final hug of the night shared between Schwimmer and Aniston.
Days earlier, Schwimmer also supplied fans with more images including a cast Zoom meeting, a snap of Friends creators Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman & David Crane, a cast huddle for the 2004 finale episode, and other memorable moments. Schwimmer has posted twelve behind-the-scenes photos so far. They've been a refreshing mix of intimate cast moments and shout-outs to the directors, producers, and photographers who contributed to the original show and made the reunion possible.
One of the most exciting moments for Friends fans was learning that during the first season of the series, Schwimmer and Aniston had feelings for one another but never acted upon them. Schwimmer said during the reunion, “I had a major crush on Jen. At some point, we were both crushing hard on each other. But it was like two ships passing. One of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary. We respected that.” Still, it's clear from the photos Schwimmer posted that they're still close, as the last image shows Schwimmer and Aniston embracing. As the reunion proved, Friends led to some enduring real-life friendships, proving that the cast was just as close off-screen as they were on-screen.
