New concept art from Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has revealed the first look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe debut of America Chavez. Directed by Sam Raimi, the film will continue the story of the Disney+ series WandaVision and see the titular sorcerer forced to face off against a friend-turned-enemy and accidentally unleashing an unspeakable evil. Benedict Cumberbatch reprises his role as Doctor Strange alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, aka Scarlett Witch, Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo while Xochitl Gomez portrays Chavez.
The young hero was originally created by Joe Casey and Nick Dragotta and was the second character in Marvel Comics to take on the moniker of Miss America. From the alien reality of the Utopian Parallel, Chavez possesses superhuman strength, speed and durability as well as the abilities of flight, inter-dimensional travel and an energy blast called the Star Blast akin to Captain Marvel's. She also gained popularity for being the first Latin-American LGBTQ+ character in Marvel to star in her own ongoing series.
Twitter user Adam Khan revealed the official art from the Doctor Strange sequel, which was given as a gift to the cast and crew on the project. In addition to including the first look at Chavez's appearance in the film, featuring a fairly faithful depiction of the character, it also sees Olsen's Scarlet Witch donning her new costume from the WandaVision finale. Check out the new art below:
Though concept art can sometimes differ from what eventually ends up on the screen, the first look at Chavez' MCU debut is certainly an enticing one to see. Keeping with the denim jacket seen in countless issues of the comics as well as the American flag design being stitched into the material, it certainly makes for a visually faithful translation from page to screen for the hero. Plus, with the confirmation that the Scarlet Witch outfit seen in WandaVision carrying over into the sequel, the film is sure to have a lot in store for fans.
With production on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness having wrapped nearly two months ago, the chances of seeing footage likely won't arrive any time soon. But that doesn't rule out the possibility of more artwork or stills of the sequel making their way to audiences in the coming months. Plus, with Disney Investor Day coming a few months ahead of the film's theatrical release, chances are high that if a trailer hasn't released by then, it will certainly arrive come December.
