GTA Online Player's Close Call With a Train Almost Ruins Casino Heist

Narrow escapes and close calls are nothing new in the world of Grand Theft Auto Online, and one would-be criminal almost had their heist run ruined by an oncoming train. Rockstar’s massively multiplayer open-world sandbox contains many players and computer-controlled NPC’s, meaning that pretty much anything can happen within the streets of Los Santos.

Most of the time, players are creating their own chaotic fun in GTA Online, pulling off ridiculous in-game stunts like jumping their cars on top of banks or channeling their inner Ghost Rider by driving their motorcycles through flaming hoops and setting them ablaze. Of course, heists are the name of the game, and plenty of virtual thieves have flexed their skills by hijacking planes in midair or making speedy getaways by uncovering hidden shortcuts.

Of course, not every crime goes off without a hitch, as one unlucky Grand Theft Auto Online player discovered during a routine casino robbery. Reddit user u/OneOfManyIdiots posted a video of their close call on the r/gtaonline subreddit yesterday, detailing how they tried to reach their objective by driving their presumably stolen armored car through a train tunnel. Things seem to be smooth sailing at first until the player notices an oncoming train ahead of them at the end of the tunnel. Luckily, they are able to avoid a head-on collision by backing up and pulling over to the side, as can be seen in the video clip below:

Grand Theft Auto Online had a banner year in 2020, thanks to a record-breaking free giveaway on the Epic Games Store last summer and fun fan-based events like a brief but memorable alien turf war. The game is expanding even further in 2021, with recent updates allowing players to break into the Diamond Casino & Resort and perform dangerous heists on the fictional island of Cayo Perico.

U/OneOfManyIdiots’s train tunnel run could have ended much differently had they not noticed the train headed their way, but luckily they were able to get clear before they met a violent, metal-crunching end right as they were celebrating their latest score. In any case, Grand Theft Auto Online continues to provide players and spectators alike with hours of entertainment within the vast community that Rockstar Games has built through an online world of reckless stunts, daring heists, and random hijinks that can only happen in video games.
