Captain Jack Sparrow of Pirates Of The Caribbean fame will set sail in the new Sea Of Thieves: A Pirates Life DLC. Spectators were caught by surprise when the lovable rogue of the silver screen made a swashbuckling appearance at today’s Xbox E3 Games Showcase.
The Xbox E3 festivities kicked off today with a special guest appearance by Bethesda Executive Producer Todd Howard, followed by intriguing new looks at upcoming games like Starfield (which finally revealed its release date), Stalker 2, and a newly-revealed co-op title called Contraband. Fans were even greeted with a long-awaited look at Halo Infinite's multiplayer, as well as a closer look at the game's plot. Somewhere in the middle of all of this news was a surprise crossover between Disney and Rare's fledgling sea simulator.
During today’s Xbox Showcase, a new trailer for Sea Of Thieves featured a surprise few saw coming. The familiar voice of Tia Dulma narrates about a new threat facing the world of pirates, forcing them to turn to a new ally: Captain Jack Sparrow. He isn’t the only character from Pirates Of The Caribbean appearing in the new A Pirate’s Life expansion, as the trailer also shows off Davy Jones and his dreaded ship, the Flying Dutchman. Check out the Sea Of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life YouTube trailer below:
Jack Sparrow has appeared in several video games in the past, either in tie-ins to his big-screen adventures, as a collectible figure in the short-lived Disney Infinity, or through Traveler's Tale's Lego adaptation of the four Pirates Of The Caribbean films in 2011. He has even had a guest role in the Kingdom Hearts series, where he helped Sora, Donald, and Goofy battle the forces of darkness in both 2005's Kingdom Hearts II and 2019's Kingdom Hearts III. Meanwhile, Sea Of Thieves may have had a slow start when it first launched last November, but it has since garnered player interest due to capturing the feel of sailing the open seas.
Captain Jack Sparrow appearing in the new Sea Of Thieves expansion is a surprising twist, but the Pirates Of The Caribbean franchise meshes well with Xbox’s open sea simulator given their shared subject matter. Fans will be able to set sail with the legendary swashbuckler when Sea Of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life leaves the harbor on June 22.
