Publisher Square Enix revealed that Black Panther’s War for Wakanda expansion for Marvel’s Avengers and more will be shown during its E3 2021 Square Enix Presents showcase. While the Black Panther expansion promises the biggest update yet for the superhero game, fans were disappointed to hear that developers would not implement a rework of Marvel's Avengers gear system. Opinions about the action looter have soured considerably since launch, so E3 looks to be an opportunity to shine a brighter light on the game.
E3 is back for the first time since 2019, and publishers and developers will return to announce new projects or provide more details on upcoming releases. Though Summer Game Fest is also returning for its second year, E3 will likely offer a more "traditional" industry experience while also hosting all-digital conferences and showcases. Square Enix is one such company planning to communicate its publishing efforts to fans during the four-day event. While the publisher probably won’t reveal certain games, like its rumored Guardians of the Galaxy game, there will be plenty of news about other upcoming games and content.
In a Thursday press release, Square Enix confirmed that Square Enix Presents is returning for E3 2021 on June 13 at 12:15 PM PDT/3:15 PM EDT. The livestream will run about 40 minutes long and will include several announcements about the publisher’s upcoming games. As mentioned above, the War for Wakanda expansion and more updates on upcoming in-game events for Marvel’s Avengers will be detailed. Life is Strange: True Colors will receive a full deep-dive, and a first glimpse at the Life is Strange: Remastered Collection will be shown. PlatinumGames will provide an update on Babylon's Fall, the action title it revealed in 2018, and the showcase will also include a premiere of Eidos-Montréal’s new game.
The debut of the Square Enix Presents showcase series earlier in 2021 brought a slew of announcements - Marvel's Avengers' Wakanda expansion was officially unveiled, and Life is Strange: True Colors was announced. As such, it's possible that a lot of unforeseen info could appear at the publisher's E3 stream. This summer’s showcase will likely follow a similar model to the first Square Enix Presents, providing quick updates for pre-existing games and unveiling new games entirely, but (with such little precedence to go on) there's no telling what unannounced reveals Square could have planned.
A new game from Eidos-Montréal is a potentially exciting prospect for fans of the Deus Ex series. The studio recently supported Crystal Dynamics with Marvel’s Avengers, but a brand new game from the talented developer will likely be a welcome announcement for fans looking for a new experience. Likewise, Bayonetta fans have eagerly awaited any announcement regarding PlatinumGames’ next game, Babylon's Fall, which has receded from the spotlight since its reveal three years ago. With so much news about several games, Square Enix Presents appears ready to please a variety of fans.
E3 2021 will take place from June 12 to June 15, 2021.
