Official E3 2021 Website Crashes Ahead Of Event Opening

The E3 2021 website just crashed, mere hours before the first day of the show is set to begin. The hype has been building all week for the annual gaming news event, which is returning this year after being canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Due to continuing complications from the virus, this year's E3 is a virtual event where fans can log on and check out all kinds of fun exhibits from the comfort of their own homes free of charge for the next four days, as long as they registered on E3's website last week. Additionally, everyone will be able to watch the live stream presentations taking place all weekend long, featuring world-shattering announcements from triple-A game publishers and indie studios alike alongside special guests and live performances.

Unfortunately, fans logging into the E3 2021 website have been met with an error message, as reported by event headmaster Geoff Keighley right before June 12’s preshow was set to begin. In his Twitter post announcing this, Keighley shared a message from the E3 team apologizing for the inconvenience, and that they are currently performing maintenance to correct the issue before today’s festivities.

The timing of this crash is especially unfortunate given that today is the first day of E3's online presentation. Ubisoft and Gearbox are the big publishers set to take the stage today, teasing new developments for highly anticipated titles like Far Cry 6 or possibly a new Borderlands instalment. Additionally, smaller companies like Devolver Digital will provide viewers with a look at some interesting indie games. Of course, today is only a warm-up round for the larger event tomorrow, where Xbox, Square Enix and Warner Games will show off their exciting new announcements for Halo Infinite, Marvel's Avengers, and Back 4 Blood. Capcom and Take-Two will step into the spotlight on Monday, and Nintendo will close the festivities with a new Direct on Tuesday.

Given the high amount of traffic for this weekend’s E3 livestream and virtual showcase, technical difficulties were likely inevitable, but this sudden crash is embarrassing all the same. Hopefully, the talented crew behind E3 2021 can correct the issue and get the site back online soon, so fans all over the world can enjoy the excitement of seeing E3 2021 in the comfort of their own home.
