The Hulk's Son Skaar's Return Could Hint At MCU Role

Warning! Spoilers for Gamma Flight #1 by Marvel Comics below.

Hulk's son Skaar just made a surprising return to the Marvel Comics Universe, which coincides with rumors the character is set to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In Gamma Flight #1, Skaar is back with an all-new appearance and connection to new gamma mutates. The storyline hints he's responsible for creating (or at least looking after) a new phase of gamma-powered monsters.

Skaar is one of the most powerful gamma mutates ever. Originally introduced in a What If...? story as part of the Planet Hulk series, Skaar soon became Marvel Comics canon. In his origin, Skaar was left on Sakaar (where Hulk had no idea he existed) as he grew up on the desolate planet. He eventually came to Earth and faced off against his father. However, he would become an ally to the Hulk and the Avengers, even becoming a double agent on the Dark Avengers. Skaar's strength and ability to channel into the Old Power made him one of Marvel's strongest characters - but Skaar was later depowered and decided to go completely off the grid and live in the mountains.

More than five years after his last appearance, Skaar just showed up in Gamma Flight #1 by Al Ewing, Crystal Frasier, Lan Medina, Antonio Fabela, and VC's Joe Sabino. When the Gamma Flight team tries to help a recently discovered gamma mutate named Stockpile who is causing destruction in Texas, the final page reveals Skaar is somehow responsible for their creation. Not only that, Skaar is fully powered again and has a frightening new look.

While Skaar's role in Gamma Flight wasn't fully revealed, his appearance in the comic could hint at his MCU future. Over the past year, Marvel Comics has worked diligently in aligning its comic stories with the MCU. With Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige now leading the way for Marvel Comics as well, the publisher has synergized characters and arcs. It's why Ms. Marvel, America Chavez, and Kang the Conquerer have new comics coming out ahead of their MCU appearances. With rumors Skaar is going to show up in She-Hulk on Disney+, his reintroduction in Gamma Flight could be getting readers reacquainted with him ahead of his MCU debut.

Whether Skaar appears in the MCU or not, it's great to see the powerful hero in Gamma Flight #1. It seemed Marvel Comics was ready to completely write off Skaar and put the character on the shelf for good. Thankfully, Skaar's adventures are finally being told again. Time will tell if Hulk's son comes to the MCUGamma Flight #1 is in comic book stores now.
