Nintendo has a lot of interesting projects in its pipeline, and if a recent leak is anything to go by, that includes some new Legend Of Zelda remakes and a 2D Donkey Kong title. So far, fans are enjoying the recently released Switch remaster of Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword, which launched with updated HD graphics and several other quality-of-life improvements late last week.
As for Donkey Kong, things have been relatively quiet for Nintendo’s big, banana-loving ape over the past few years. The last big-budget console platformer to feature Donkey Kong was 2014’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Deep Freeze for the Wii U, and the last DK game in general was Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars a year later. Since then, fans have been left hoping for some big news in the wake of Donkey Kong’s 40th anniversary this year, with Nintendo supposedly planning several major projects to commemorate the milestone. Fans might have just gotten their first glimpse at one of them now.
According to Comicbook.com, an alleged insider by the Twitter handle of markomaro just leaked out a treasure trove of exciting Nintendo leaks, including rumors that Switch remakes of 3D Legend Of Zelda titles like The Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are complete and ready to be released any time now. Not only that, but remakes of the classic Game Boy Color spin-offs Oracles Of Ages and Oracles Of Seasons are also in the works for a release “sometime between 2022 and 2023.” Zelda is far from the only franchise listed in this leak, as markomaro also makes mention of a brand-new, 2D Donkey Kong platformer that has previously been hinted at for a release this Holiday season but was apparently delayed until sometime next year.
Plenty of other Nintendo properties were included in markomaro’s posts, including long-awaited sequels like Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, and Pikmin 4. Fire Emblem developer Intelligent Systems is said to be working on a remake of Paper Mario that is supposedly coming out in the next two years, and the long-awaited Metroid Prime 4 is said to be at least “65 percent complete.” New Kirby, Pokémon, and Rhythm Paradise/Heaven games were mentioned as well.
Of course, markomaro’s many Nintendo leaks still haven’t been officially confirmed by any measure, so they should all be taken with a grain of salt until further notice. That being said, Donkey Kong is long overdue for a new 2D platforming adventure, and Legend Of Zelda fans are always excited for a chance to relive some of their favorite installments with a brand-new coat of HD paint. If the rumors are true, Nintendo players will have a lot to look forward to in the next couple of years.
